Is it like botw? I played the ps2 god of war games and they're ok but not usually my cup of tea. 3d beat-em-ups are alright but I don't play them often, and the puzzles were limited.

I can't tell if I'll like it. It's been described as an action rpg which I usually like but that depends on the combat system and general feel of the game. I can't get a feel of the game from youtube videos and missed out on any potential demos they may have released.

Sometimes I feel like I played a different game than everyone else.

But I don't want to derail the topic, the fans get super angry when someone says something they disagree with.

Both are similar, but their best qualities are different. BotW excels in exploration while GoW action and story is insanely fun.

It's a personality thing more so than his usefulness. Early on he won't be too bad but where I'm up to he's been properly grating on my nerves for a while.

no, it's not even really an open world game, you can explore a little & do sidequests but it's mostly linear

I would call it open word but its definitely more restrictive in where you can go than most. But areas open up over time and the game gets pretty big in the end.

This was in my backlog and I beat it a few weeks ago, I loved the fuck out of it. Some of those battles had me in awe, the first one sets the tone and IMO the most memorable, but they are all great.

there are times that I didn't retrieve the axe just so I could punch and shield bash the hell out of enemies.

Im in the minority but I thought the first Stranger battle (and the beginning hours of the game) felt way too on-rails and hand-holdy

Its a minor touch but I like how someone will be talking while riding in the boat and if you moor it theyll have a fluid segue. And then when you get in the boat again theres a fluid dialog to start where they left off.

I was never a fan of the original games but absolutely loved GoW2018. Only game I enjoyed more this generation was RDR2.

Plus no loafing screens and how its made to look like one-shot(ala Birdman or 1917) makes it a technical marvel alone

I rarely get every trophy for a game, but I did with God Of War. Even once the story is over, the combat is so fun that I wanted to find a reason to continue. That last Valkyrie was a pain in the ass, never in a game did I consider lowering the difficulty more than I did for that fight. I managed to pull it off though.

There is nothing really spoilery in this post, just an enemy type and I did it just in case.

You can put your axe away by pressing right on the d-pad, don't even need to throw it.

Yeah, that was something I think I first saw in Uncharted 4 and wondered why games hadn't been doing that all along. I think God of War takes it a step further though because Uncharted 4 was along the lines of "...what was I saying? Oh yeah. [Begin dialogue line again]" whereas GoW I noticed would be "So, I was just telling you the story about X and Y..."

That's actually my own 2 criticism of the game. The fact they have to reuse the same bosses over and over again and that combat is practically tied to your armor and weapon stats (a nitpick). Otherwise it's a goddamn master piece.
