I played it ages ago on Wii U when it released for virtual console but now I'm playing it for the 2nd time on the SNES Classic. I can't remember my first runthrough at all.

Pretty good game. Just beat the 2nd Dungeon (the one that's in the desert). Now I'm onto the third pendant that looks to be in what appears to be death mountain.

Is it easy to find everything by yourself without guide? Like all the heartpieces, extra jars etc... If there's something ludicrously bullshit I'll probably just use a guide since I don't have patience to search the overworld map like 60 times to find some obscure upgrade.

As long as you make a note of places where you could return to use a later acquired item, you're fine.

I play through the game once or twice a year. I have to admit there are some items I don't bother getting because I don't remember where they are. Like the magic cape and the one cane that puts a barrier around you or something. I am also usually 3 hearts shy of max. The game is easy enough without them.

It is hard to find everything without a guide, but it depends on your Zelda instincts. I say just go for it and screw it if you miss something. Just play again next year and you might find things you missed.

Fuclen oath boiz just made it to the Alternate World (what's the official name for it? Golden Land)

I love how drab and dead everything looks, and the golden/amethyst skyline when standing on top of the pyramid for the first time. It feels more dangerous and the isolation feels more oppressive.
Even though I knew of this mechanic I reckon back in the day it would've been a cool twist to get to this part and realize you have a whole new world to explore.

The only thing I don't like is the music. It's great from a songwriting perspective. But I don't know if the theme fits the once great land that's now taken over by evil. Maybe I'm just wrong and drunk. I would've preferred a more atmospheric and darker tone. The theme here sounds a bit adventurous and lighthearted... kinda like the adventure is almost over and it's the last stretch before your quest ends.
Also don't like the dungeon theme in the Alternate World. The dungeon theme when you're in the light world searching for pendants it's great. Has such a mysterious, ancient and hidden away for so long vibe.

Anyway I just beat the first dungeon in the Dark World and got the Hammer. Onwards to dungeon 2.

I got myself past the second dungeon in the dark world and then accidentally loaded up a save state from the beginning of the game, haven't gone back since. I'll probably pick it up again at some point. I have beaten the game twice before but that was back on the SNES when I was a youngin.

Righto boiz up to the last dungeon I believe.

I've tried to get 100% completion without a guide and I told myself I would search for everything but I just stop caring after searching the map once and have no motivation or self control so I'm using a guide to get the last heart pieces. I found all of them except 3 so I didn't do too bad.
Had to use a guide to find the cape in the graveyard and in my defense I think I charged into that suspicious looking tombstone every single direction except the one it wouldn't me too which is annoying.
Also had no idea where the last bottle was. (under the bridge)

Also my favourite dungeon was either the Ice Palace or the one in the Lost Woods. I think it's clever how there are heaps of entrances via the overworld to progress.
My least favourite one was the last one on Death Mountain. Just because that section with rotating fireball bars and you had to use the Cane to proceed on the maze, it's near impossible to avoid damage and it's dark. Fuck that bit.

Beat the game. Turns out the 3 heart pieces I needed were pretty well hidden. One was an a piece of overlooked in Kakariko Village behind a bombable wall. The second was in a circle of bushes in the dark world, you had to warp back to the light world which gave you access to a cave higher up. And the third one was halfway through the Turtle Rock dungeon there is a secret cave if you warp back to the light world. I never would have found that.

Pretty sick game. Will definitely revisit this again.
