I wonder if it's slower on tv with breaks or if the official directors cut is slower.

I remember seeing that in theater when it came out. I think I've watched it once since then. That ending is as long as some movies.

And there wasn't even a Scouring of the Shire. It was the right call though. The Scouring made sense in the context of the books, but it wouldn't have worked in the movies.

Part of me still wishes they did the scouring of the Shire. It was an important part in the book. I understand why they didn't. I still remember being in the theater and kept almost getting up several times because I thought it was ending.

They could have cut out some of the dumb stuff in TTT that wasn't in the books (Aragorn trying to get to Helm's Deep/ Frodo and Sam in Osgiliath) then put Shelob's part at the end of TTT like how it was in the books. It would have been an awesome cliffhanger.

If LotR were filmed today, they could do the Scouring of the Shire as a Netflix/Amazon movie. But they killed Saruman and Wormtongue in the extended cut of RotK so they'd have to get rid of that.

Part of me wants a Netflix reboot of LOTR so they can add more stuff to it but the casting was so damn perfect in PJ's trilogy that I don't think they could get it right.

I hated many of the elf castings. Hugo Weaving, Cate Blanchett, Liv Tyler, and the guy that played Haldir. Orlando Bloom was the only elf casting I really liked.

I don't like how the elves were done either for the most part, but I blame the writing, directing, and other choices than the actors. They made the elves more like the typical fantasy elf that was dirived from LOTR. The males looked metrosexual as well.

Elrond seemed irritable and hated men when he had mannish blood and his brother chose to be a man. He was fine with Aragorn marrying his daughter as well if I remember right. He comes off as an angry douche instead of this wise and kind elf lord.

I liked Cate Blanchett, but they made Galadriel overly creepy at times and then they turned her into a video game character for a minute. Arwen was mishandled like Elrond. I blame Jackson and company for making her too much like Eowyn. Haldir looked weird, but I blame the costume design.

Orlando Bloom was fine. Making Legolas into a OP elf wasn't.

If Return of the King was broken into a TV episodic season, the "ending" would take up a whole episode.

The ending is good and doesn't drag.

I'm sorry the 10 hour movie experience took more than 20 minutes to wrap up.

the ending isn't even that long.

frodo wakes up in a bed and watches the fellowship enter one by one and they embrace and laugh and cry, aragorn is then crowned king and a new age begins as he's finally reunited with arwen and everybody bows down as the hobbits are celebrated as heroes above all(always found it a bit odd that merry and pips are counted alongside frodo and sam tbh), then the hobbits finally return home after 13 months and try to get back to their old life. back in their local tavern sam hits on rose whom he marries after some time. then we see frodo finishing up his story while leaving a bit of space left for sam. then the hobbits all travel to the harbor with bilbo at which point they say their final farewell to gandalf as he, the elves and bilbo leave for the undying lands but not before he tells frodo that's it's also time for him to leave. then frodo explains why he had to leave and he embraces each hobbit and enters the boat with a final smile and nod. then sam returns back home to his wife and kid and they close the door behind them.

how the hell is that even a long ending??

Its not long if its more content of a movie you like. People complaining sound like they weren't really into the movie <_<
