Board 8 > What's the best version of the FF7 HD port?

Between PS4, PC, and Switch. I'm leaning Switch but that depends mostly if the handheld mode is good enough to play the game on. The small screen might be an issue. PS4 trophies are tempting as well.

Also they all have the same features, fast forward mode and everything, right?

I started the Switch version earlier today and I havent been bothered by the screen size at all, but also the last time I played FFVII was on a PSP.

Out of the box, Switch. It actually looks better on the small screen, and the same as PS4 on the big screen. It believe fixes some of the bugs too. However, it does have a nee bug (also in the Xbox One version) where a couple of FMV->real time transitions go black for half a second. Very minor but I dont know if they ever fixed it.

However if you want to mess around with mods, PC. The PC port lacks some of the features added in the PS4 version (which the Switch version has).

You cant really go wrong, they are all good versions. It is funny that perhaps the best version of FF7 is not only on Nintendo, but on cartridge (the cartridge version also has FF8 no less).

Those mods do look really sick but the game looking better in handheld mode is pretty huge. And I think I'll just play the game more on a console.

Maybe in like...10 years when all the Remake parts are out and I have the urge to replay FF7 again, I'll give the Remako stuff a shot!

Why do people think that increasing the framerate of animations makes them look better? Those battle animations look so unnatural, go faster than they're supposed to, and multiple times it messed with the timing of sound effects and damage numbers. Animators know what the framerate is supposed to be and whatever they make was done with that in mind.

I think this looks a thousand times better personally, and considering hardware limitations there's a bit of argument to be had in terms of how purposeful a lot of decisions in that era of game design were BUUUUUT if that's how you feel you'll be thrilled to know that you can also disable the frame improvements with a simple click!

Of course the PC version's framerates are actually innately worse than the PS1's without any mods so maybe a purist like yourself would be better off just emulating the game, lol.

I'm sure there are other aspects of those mods I would appreciate, but that in particular looks so bad I just had to rant about it. You see the same thing where people try to make anime run at 60fps with interpolation and it absolutely looks like shit.

Okay yes Braver looked a little stupid because the initial limit break animation was too sped up but everything else looks amazing.

I'll concede that Braver does suffer there, but I'll maintain that everything else looks so much better that it's a worthy sacrifice. I'll also agree that interpolated animation looks awful - now there's a great example of completely ruining artistic intent.
