I have Libre Office. I had Apache Open Office until I reinstalled windows a few months ago, then I switched to Libre cause it is a newer fork of Open Office.

if openoffice will do what I need it to do, IE open up documents from work etc, then i'll be happy using it. I think my current PC, which is 10 years old, has 2007 office on it.. makes it a bitch when i get new docs from work sometimes.

1 - You can still buy the Office suite and download it like in the past, they're just pushing the subscription service more.

2 - Open Office was the corporate version of Star Office and it looks like it hasn't been updated in years (I guess that was based on the pre-"Apache Open Office", either way doesn't look like it's updated as much as Libre). Libre Office is the fork of it and it's actively developed and updated still.

I use Microsoft Office at work, at home I tend to use Libre Office though recently I've been trying the free version of Office online (since that's a thing, just like Google Docs).
