On one hand, it's a godsend not having to redo an entire chapter due to bad luck, if you're the type who wants to keep everyone alive (as well as the fact that you automatically lose if the main character or House Leader gets defeated), even if it does sort of defeat the purpose of playing on Classic mode.
On the other hand, it also removes some of the tension, knowing that you can turn back time to fix mistakes. Plus, in Three Houses, it automatically prompts you to use it if Byleth, the House Leader, or another key player on the map is defeated. Yeah, it has limited uses, but unless you play terribly, you barely even use it once or twice per map, if even that. It's the same issue as with Mila's Turnwheel in Shadows of Valentia, except it didn't automatically prompt you if Alm or Celica is defeated. --- Be wary of boarding the hype train, lest you end up on the ruse cruise... - nanobuilder (r/nintendo) http://backloggery.com/SolarCrimson ... I think it's an acknowledgement that save scumming is going to happen regardless, and an effective means of making that less time consuming in a game that, as is, takes dozens of hours to complete just one of four storylines.
I also would note that on hard mode I have been forced to use the full allotment on a few occasions. --- kin to all that throbs ... Copied to Clipboard!

This has pretty much been argued to death -- but I stand on the side that says its bad for the game. It basically negates enemy crits/encourages poor planning. Also -- there are some maps *cough cough petra* where it seems like the map was built around the use of that ability.

The game takes steps to stop its usage in save scumming by cementing how your level ups will go when battle starts and some other likewise rng locks.

I appreciate any game that doesn't waste my fucking time. I ain't a 22 y/o child anymore, I ain't got time to restart a 40 min chapter just because an enemy 2% crit me or some bs same turn reinforcements showed up behind my back line.

I world also like to think that I'm great with planning things as I haven't had much trouble with the game at all even on Hard/Classic, but those times the enemy gets of a Crit, yeah... --- Be wary of boarding the hype train, lest you end up on the ruse cruise... - nanobuilder (r/nintendo) http://backloggery.com/SolarCrimson ... I never actually used the DP to scum for stat boosts; I just take what the game gives me there. You can't actually. Once you deploy on a map all level up rolls are set. If you want different level ups you have to restart. The only exception are adjutants which have the same level ups regardless of how many times you restart. If you did want to DP scum for level ups, you would have to reverse the level up and then proceed to not use that unit for the rest of combat so you can try again the next map. Do that and you're just saying you want to play a game where you can't lose. If the only way you can lose in Fire Emblem is from enemies randomly scoring a kill off of a low critical hit ratio that your ways of defending against is limited, and the result of which is you replaying the last 45 minutes of your life for literally no reason other than random ass chance, I dare say you are scapegoating dragon pulse and your issue with the gameplay lies elsewhere and at a much more fundamental level. --- "That thick shaft that causes women to shudder!" ... Im gonna be honest. Random crits are the only way you should be losing.
The game desperately needed more objectives than eliminate all units or more trick shit like Edelgard setting fire to the mound. I like it.
Don't miss those days where I lost a half hour or more of progress because someone ate a crit near the end. That's not fun, it's just annoying. My only criticism is that you should be able to have the option to turn it off altogether. But even then, DPing to the very start if someone dies can be punishment enough for those who want to do it the hard way. And honestly it's just saving time. DP as opposed to soft resetting, waiting for the game to load, selecting the game file, and running through the menus again. --- This is a mobile account, forgive any errors. ~DYL~ 12-18-19: Donald Trump has been impeached. ...
