No, I didnt imply that at all.

What Im saying is that the Holdo maneuver makes you question why they went through with the trench run.
Well, I can think of lots of reasons. Nobody thought of it. Nobody wanted to die. They were optimistic about the chances of everyone surviving the trench run.

But more to the point, it didn't change anything. "Why didn't they lightspeed ram the Death Star" was just as valid a question in 1977 as it is today.

I uhh.... Don't think anyone goes to war expecting 0 casualties.

But they didn't even need to kill anyone they could have made a droid do it. R2D2 and C3PO are exceptions. Most droids are like the Death star janitor bot and don't actually have any personality.

What makes you say that? K2, HK-47, that one that processes R2D2 and C3PO in RotJ, BB8, other R2s, IG-11, the one who screams when his feet get burned in RotJ... a couple of those are even from the OT, if you're hoping to exclude any that aren't.

Literally every astromech in every xwing during the strike on the Death Star except R2D2 was a soulless robot. They actually make a point of it in the movie when they want to give Luke a new droid and he turns them down. The ones you know the names of are remarkable for their identities. if you can even call IG-88s 2 seconds of on screen time with a name only found in merchandising an identity.

Anything to do with hyperspace travel, but especially the scene where people on various planets are able to look up and see the beams from Starkiller Base. That scene drives me absolutely bonkers.

Also all of TLJ except the stuff with Luke and Rey.

It invalidates the bombing runs on both death stars.
It really doesn't. Not only can you invent any number of mumbo jumbo technobabble to explain why it wasn't possible, the Death Stars were also several orders of magnitude larger than the ship Holdo destroyed. And it would likely have blasted any rebel vessel to pieces if it came close enough (which actually happened in episode 6).

What does invalidate episode 6 is Han's shield bypassing maneuver in episode 7. They could have just sent in a bunch of X-Wings reverting from hyperspace inside the deflector shield.

TLJ novel says that Rey basically downloaded all of Bens skills and abilities when he probed her mind in TFA.

TRoS novel says Palpatine transfered his mind to a clone body on Exogol when Vader threw him down the shaft.

Also it raises the question of how Han has such precise timing. Light travels the diameter of the Earth in about a 20th of a second.

Holdo destroyed one ship and the shrapnel from the explosion fucked up everything behind it real bad. Even if it wouldn't literally blow up the death star you could, at a minimum, render the superlaser inoperable.

Well maybe. Han doesn't calculate, so it was probably more a matter of just having a feel for it from decades of flight experience. I dunno if droids can do the same or if the M Falcon has a hyperspace speedometer to even use to calculate with, let alone compounded quantization error.

But you probably could probably build a computerized ship that could do it, although they wouldn't have had time for that between when they learned about it and when they launched the offensive.

But now that you mention it, why does lightspeed make the MF go straight through the barrier but it make's Holdo's ship explode violently on contact with Snoke's?

I think the point is that hyperspace is supposed to be some sort of different dimension rather than just traveling through the same space really fast. With that reasoning, Holdo's ship was accelerating to reach hyperspace but collided before it entered

Of course, there are still a few questionable details like how Han was able to decelerate feom hyperspeed before crashing into SKB.

Absolutely. But we all know that Star Wars has always been playing fast and loose with actual physics. In fact I thought the whole "shoot a space beam to another star system in a matter of minutes oh and it's visible from a third system" was worse in ep 7

It's a soft scifi thing in general. I normally just laugh and let it go as long as it's at least somewhat consistent.

I mean, if we're worrying about optics, hey guess what there's a ship over there that literally goes faster than light.

Hyperspace travel was always vague enough that it could be explained away by saying they were traveling via another dimension or something. showing explicitly, on screen, that that's in fact not the case is the problem with the Holdo Maneuver. It's a bit of a 'less is more' situation.
