Like could we at LEAST get Trump out even if we get a feeble old fence sitting DNC puppet in his place?

The DNC's track record is...mixed, at best.
Since 1972, when "electability" became a primary concern, the following have been nominated:
Jimmy Carter
Walter Mondale
Mike Dukakis
Bill Clinton
Al Gore
John Kerry
Barack Obama
Hillary Clinton
Joe Biden

None of the winners were the "establishment favorite", though, to be fair, this is in part because most of the favorites stayed out of 1992 because Bush I was looking strong at that point. Clinton and Obama made nice, of course.

They can control what goes on in the primary election but are completely powerless in the general election.

So in short, they're fucked. Biden is fucked. And we're fucked unless Ruth Bader Ginsburg can miraculously survive the next 5 years.

Man I remember when the Democrats were pushing Clinton hard over Obama but couldnt stop Obamas surging popularity. A very competitive and testy primary if I recall

I will never understand why Bernie supporters are mad their guy didn't get an endorsement from the thing he frequently shits on. Was the DNC supposed to sit out while he was trying to incite a political revolution within their party?

As it turns out, a successful overthrow of the status quo requires more than lip service from your fans, and a lot of people came out to vote for Biden while a lot of Bernie supporters stayed home. They could go off and try forming their own party, but the reality is that we're all stuck in the same prisoner's dilemma we see every election season. It's pretty rare we get a populist candidate that rises above that dynamic. Top of my head, you've just got Reagan, Clinton, and Obama.
