Just wanna make sure I understand this correctly.

Wuhan just lifted their lockdown last week since being locked down from January.

Italy and France just extended their lockdowns after their peak has already passed.

Yet America had one of the loosest lockdown measures and just started to get hit hard and the first reaction is WE NEED TO OPEN DA ECONOMIESZ!!

People are always going to talk about it. I guarantee you people have been talking about it in Italy too.

Only question is whether it's going to actually happen.

I dont get how they can put the economy over public health.

By all models ive seen, America hasnt even hit their peak yet outside of New York. If they rush to open the country back up, theres going to be hot spots just like New York.

Can you guys not oversimplify it? People are losing their jobs, and the economy affects people's lives tremendously.

Phase one is allowing restaurants, religion, and sports places to open with strict distancing protocols, and if shit screws up, they'll lock down again immediately.

We in america value freedom, especially when we have a shit safety net and need to slave away at our jobs to make sure we aren't ass out on the street. long time lockdowns don't work for America because our government is not interested in making such things work, trillions for corporations they can do but a one time money of 1200 dollars is shit for the average american. We need to open back up as soon as possible to avoid that homelessness and starvation. Are people gonna die as a result? Yes, are we possibly gonna make the virus longer lasting because of this, most likely but we have no fucking choice but to gamble because that's the country we live in.

Probably easier to reopen then face the question of it everything stays shut down who is gonna pay the bills/rent that keep being due but people don't have jobs. Or the small business who will all go bankrupt if everything stays shut down.

This is true. I went for a drive today out of boredom and there were so many people out. Jogging, just sitting at the park together. A lot of groups together, not social distancing at all. You wouldnt think theres a pandemic going on. The people that havent been personally effected by this think its all overblown and want things to open back up ASAP because theyre impatient. It isnt until these people are personally effected by this will they have a change of heart about the situation.

This is nature's world and we're just living in it. Shit beyond our control happens and we can't just pretend it didn't through sheer American work ethic. Maybe things are just screwed and can't go back to normal. Greedy people can help us in the meantime while we rebuild in a new normal.

On one hand, sacrifice the jobs of millions leaving them possibly poor and homeless with no way of making money and going hungry.

On the other hand, possibly sacrificing the lives millions by reopening.

I dont think they care too much either, but thats not the entire situation. There are a lot of regular people who want to get back to their jobs, so they have money to buy food and dont lose their house. Others are probably just tired of staying home and want to go... well, wherever they want to.

Because they want to get drunk and laid.

That is seriously all it is. The exception are the people legit scared they won't be able to make ends meet, but those people are also cowards that don't realize there are safety nets keeping them from being evicted. Perpetual victims.

I have a friend who has basically been on a downward spiral to being a piece of crap over the last year. He bulk ordered a bunch of liquor prior to this because he's developed alcoholism and was getting mad that his order wasn't prioritized. He's breaking quarantine to hang out with his slutty girlfriend that he knows sleeps around on him (he also sleeps around on her) and was whining to me about how he needs to get back to mass socialization, because it's in his blood. Prior to this he was having a mid life crisis acting like a 25 year old because he felt like he missed out on that part of his life. Most people just don't know themselves well enough to keep themselves happy without trying to get drunk and laid, it's the only thing they care about doing.
