Our kitchen sink has been clogged for a couple days, so the plumber is here now snaking the access line in the basement. I've never smelled anything so fucking vile, between whatever was in there and just opening the drain lines and letting all the sewer gasses vent into the house.

He was a big fan of bacon and other greasy shit. Said he "never had a problem, just run hot water after you pour it out". Well, now we've got the plumber out here on an emergency call saying otherwise, you fucking dipshit.

I dont really cook greasy foods, what would be the best way to get rid of it? Would dumping it down the toilet be better or basically just as bad?

Better off pouring into a container like an empty milk carton and just throwing it away. Well pour if deep frying oil, wipe off with paper towel if just layer of grease in pan.

Though for bacon grease we actually save it and cook with it.

Paper towels -> trash can.

Are paper towels on shortage too? I dunno, but that's what I do during normal circumstances.

Dump all your grease into a can, wait for it to cool, and toss it in the trash.

save it and put it in the fridge so it solidifies

when it's solid you can either save it and reuse it (lots of folks do that with bacon grease) or just put it in a bag or disposable container and dump it in the trash

some folks also dump used cooking oil in their gardens, since it apparently makes a good fertilizer

I put all of my grease into a used coffee can and dry up what it's in the pan with a paper towel. I also freeze the grease I collected into a used coffee can so that none of it can leak by the time I dump it in the trash. I don't want some trash collector to potentially get grease spilled all over them.

What happens is it accumulates on the sides of the pipes, and water doesn't wash it away because it's oil-based. Hot water does nothing, because once the pipe goes underground it is insulated by cold dirt.
