On my moms 2018 returns, I was listed as a dependant. On her 2019 returns, she also listed me as a dependant, but shouldn't have since I'm 24 (in May '19). She sends her taxes to someone who reviews and fixes mistakes, but her 2019 return hasn't been reviewed or submitted yet.

So will my stimulus eligibility be based on my dependant status from my moms last submitted taxes, even though I dont qualify as a dependant anymore? FWIW, I do live with her but I filed my own 2019 return and work a full time job and stuff

Will almost certainly not get it. Mom could theoretically amend her 2019 forms since the deadline was extended.

Since you're both 24 and filed your own 2019 return you should be eligible

You might have to go through some extra hoops to get it though cause from what I've seen even people who should qualify have had problems getting it (Such as someone who owed taxes in a previous year but had already paid them off)

I know for a fact that it is also being based on 2019 return cause I know someone who didn't work in 2018 but did in 2019 and got it

that and you can also file your taxes yourself. Once you file your taxes, put in a direct deposit for your bank account and then you will get both your tax return and stimulus

Possibly. Tbh you might not even have to. I was just basing that on the fact that someone else had to contact them when it was an even less complicated situation than you're in

I'd suggest checking with that tool when it finally starts working and then going from there

If you filed your 2019 taxes it uses that, otherwise it uses your 2018.

Use the google, get the website that checks your status and stop relying on uninformed people on ce.

If you filed as independent last year you might be able to override her marking you as a dependent. Youd have to call the IRS and explain why she has you as a dependent

What type of dependant are you? I'm not sure why you're mentioning 24. That's only if you're in college during that period. Are you still in college?

Dependency is based off how much money she provides to you vs how much you make. There's no age limit.

Hmm I was under the impression you had to be under 24? I graduated college March '19 and made about 40k last year

To meet the qualifying child test, your child must be younger than you and either younger than 19 years old or be a "student" younger than 24 years old as of the end of the calendar year.

Ok, this clears things up a little more. You're a child dependant and were in school for at least 5 months last year. However, you don't seem to meet the support test. Basically, unless your mom provided over $20k in support to you, you were able to support yourself.

So you can really fuck things up still being considered a dependent. So I'd really talk to a tax professional. In this case, you should get the stimulus, but I wouldn't make any major changes without getting help.
