As boring as NASCAR is it does take skills to race that fast for such a long time. You got to have some pretty good reflexes and plenty of stamina and focus to do that.

yes. They physically exert themselves quite a bit and it requires a good level of fitness and mental focus to be able to do a long endurance race the way they do.

I consider the Isle of Man TT bike racers to be athletic but not Nascar.I am a big fan of auto racing too.

No. It definitely requires a lot of skill and a very good understanding of one's car to win, but it has nothing to do with athleticism. Someone who is out of shape and in poor physical health wouldn't be at any disadvantage if they had the necessary knowledge.

If Nascar is anything close to F1, yes. Those guys need to be in incredible shape and lose like 10 lbs in sweat each race.

No, on a technicality. You gotta imagine it's taxing af to deal with the acceleration forces but I think athletics is more specific than just general physical feats. I wouldn't consider weightlifters athletes either, for example.

There's nothing athletic about it but it does take skill that needs to be learned and trained. David Blaine isn't an athlete but his endurance stunts do take some level of training to do it at a limited chance of fatality.
