The irresponsibility of not getting her fixed aside (and for the record, I was a young kid for most of that cat's life, so I had zero influence on the situation), the kittens would often do their business all over our carport. My mom tried using that "don't go here" spray and it just seemed to make them go there more lol You should also google "anti-chewing spray for dogs" and see all the dogs proudly chewing on the bottle. Good luck training the little guy though! I was lucky in that both of my cats came pre-trained. He had quite obviously not eaten a decent amount in quite a long time. He was horrifyingly underweight. He is now 15, and he is the second greatest cat I have ever known. I've finally set up my room to let him wander it freely. I think he MIGHT be able to climb the gate, but we got food and he instead slept on my bed (which he climbed up) instead of the one I bought him. I will close the room door at night though, to be extra safe. You need to mix in touching/petting with feeding (never let them eat without some conditioning - at first just your presence if necessary). If you decide to catch them, try to get them in a trap. That way they won't associate you with their capture when you come around to pick them up. But who knows, people might already be interacting with them so it might not be so difficult.
