It had a date on it of May.

I opened it in December and it's been in the fridge since.

Should I drink it?

Also depends on how cold you keep your fridge, but I try to discard anything that's like 4 or 5 months old except stuff like mustard or soy sauce or maybe pickles. I have to buy expensive milk too, but if I leave it sitting out by accident for hours, it goes down the drain.

I've been drinking lactose-free milk lately that has a long (though not that long wtf) sell-by date but once you open it the shelf life is 2 weeks. I imagine it's a similar situation here so I wouldn't

Almond milk has a long shelf life like that. Still good after it's expired too.

Heavy cream has a shorter shelf life than milk because of the fat content
Most heavy cream that you buy at a grocery store is ultra-high temperature processed, and between that in the high fat content, is actually why heavy cream can last months in a fridge after being opened. Most milks don't undergo the same process, which is why they go bad much faster.

Sounds like you've got some kind of organic milk. While the expiration date may be good, check the packaging for anything like "use within x days after opening".

Do you have an adequate sense of smell? That's a quick way to figure out if the milk is bad or not.

I find milk can be unpredictable. There's this one brand that more often than not tastes on the verge of going sour right out of the store, so I stopped buying it. I haven't had any issues with Natrel. It lasts forever. I also have to buy 2L cartons because that's the biggest size lactose-free milk is available in. Costs more than a 4L of regular milk.

Cereal is my regular breakfast, so milk doesn't sit around unless it's hiding at the back unseen and I don't feel like cleaning out my fridge right away.
