The flood are a lot easier to deal with then the covenant. After you trigger a spawn just fall off and pick them off with the pistol or grenades and shotty if they get too close. Much better then trying to pot shot a elite who has almost perfect accuracy and runs away if you down their shields.

I do think it's one of the easier missions in the game. I don't know if I'd say second easiest though. You're right, if you know how to fight Flood correctly, they're much easier than Elites. But the mission is still a slog, and you fight a lot of Flood in it. More than any other mission in the entire franchise I'm pretty sure. You're bound to get killed a few times, primarily by Shotgun Flood and Rocket Flood.

Seems like all of the great FPSs have that one level that just really sucks ass

I wouldn't call it awful, but it definitely overstays its welcome.

I honestly found the sentinels in Pillar of Autumn to be way more frustrating, the Library was just really long

Maybe I'm misremembering or thinking of a different level, but you can actually just run through large portions of the library pretty easily without fighting no?

Assuming the goal is just to get through it

I remember it being really hard many years ago when I tried to kill every enemy. haven't played it in over a decade by now.

Maybe I just was into the game, but it honestly didn't feel that long tbh. I'm playing a casual legendary play through and i'm used to most stages taking 40mins or longer and although i'm sure I played the level for around that time I didn't much compared to some of the harder covenant levels. I actually didn't die to a rocket flood once, although one rocket was a little close.
