For example, I really want to know if there's other life out there. Even if I never actually get the chance to meet them and interact with them personally. Just knowing with certainty that they're out there and that humanity could eventually find them and make contact would be enough for me. I could die happy knowing that there is something more, that all the shit we deal with on this planet could be worthwhile and could be building up to something truly amazing. I'd be alright with playing my little part, as it were, because I'd know it did actually mean something. On the other side, if I saw everything and found out there wasn't any other life, I'd also be content staying here on Earth and living my humble life.
