I've been watching Mobile Suit Gundam (1979) the last couple of weeks and I'm nearly finished. I'll be moving on to the other Gundam shows eventually but I want something different for now. MSG is looking like a new favourite for me, has good characters and action.

I'm not much of a fan of modern anime, although I am watching through JJBA along with reading the manga. Trying to settle on something from the 00s or earlier to watch.

I've seen NGE and Cowboy Bebop. Recently watched Digimon Adventure and I really liked that, the final villain gave me weird Hellraiser vibes which was cool and surprising.

Are there any good series that could be considered similar to Nausica of the Valley of the Wind? Or in a completely different style something fucked up and bizarre.

Have you watched Legend of the Galactic Heroes? Because if you like old anime then you should definitely watch that.

Excel Saga is pretty bizarre and fun to watch. Very light hearted for 99% of the series, then turns super serious.

I like the sound of this. Something long is probably best, got a lot of free time and I've really got into the habit of watching a few episodes a day of whatever I'm watching so could get through it.

I was thinking about this, got a friend who was rewatching it recently and he made it sound good.

Your friend has good taste. It's one of my favorite anime of all time and Yang Wen-li is my actual favorite anime character of all time.

Standard answer I'm guessing but Char is my favourite character. I really liked the Gouf Ramba Ral had but then they became more commonplace and didn't seem as cool. I've got 12 episodes left of MSG, forgot to watch any yesterday.

Char really is the breakout character so that's understandable. Look forward to Amuro and his mates turning out pretty great in future installments though.

Gouf is a good choice too, definitely one of the top designs.
