Yeah the picnic set was weird for me. The event started when I was still moving villagers in so I didn't get it for the first few days. Then when no one moved in, she gave it to my second character but not my main. Then the following day, she gave it to my main. It was really confusing

Apparently there's a Nook Shopping app (in-game) you unlock after making 100 purchases at the ABD, whether it's for yourself or a friend. So if host parties don't work out, we can mail the lights to each other as well to kill 2 birds

That's gonna be my plan when I max the DIY Tools Nook Miles. It sucks that Trashed Tools ends so early at 200 but DIY Tools is 1000 on the fourth step!

Hold on to your iron nuggets. You'll need a lot to open up your shop. You get iron nuggets (as well as stones, clay, gold nuggets, and atm stone eggs) from hitting a rock with a shovel. You can hit it up to 8 times if you're quick enough (after the first hit, an invisible timer of sorts starts, like the multi coin blocks in Mario games). The recoil might make hitting it 8 times tricky, so you can dig two holes behind you that will stop you from bouncing back far.

Eating fruit lets you shovel up an entire tree or shatter a rock with one hit. Generally you don't want to shatter rocks on your own island unless it's in a spot you don't like. So make sure you don't have any fruits buffs before you start mining

Once you get a shovel, there is a golden spot that has 1000 bells buried each day. You can bury bells in the golden spot for a money tree. It will produce 3 bags of the amount* you put in (takes like 5 days to fully grow). If you put over 10,000, there is a chance it will give you 3 bags but also a chance it will only give you 10,000 bags (some people like to bury 30k for a chance at 90k or to just break even).

There is also one rock that drops bells when hit with your shovel each day (up to 16,100). Dig some holes to prevent pushback when hitting the rock to maximize the drops from the rock.

Four fossils spawn each day. Two pieces of furniture are hidden in the trees each day (shake the tree to make it drop). Five wasp nests are in the trees each day. You'll probably encounter them if you're shaking trees for furniture. They're worth like 2.5k. Shake trees with your net and if a wasp nest drops, mash A and you'll catch the wasp immediately.

Talk to the Nook ATM each day for a log-in bonus. It also has a different piece of KK music and different fencing DIY recipes each day if you want to buy/collect those.

Donate fish and bugs to the museum; after you've donated one, you can sell them. Shells can be sold, but you could also use them for certain DIY recipes once you find them.

This. Also, if you have enough storage space, you could keep fish until Flick or CJ come to town. Flick buys bugs for more than the store. And CJ buys fish for more. Not only that, but if you give Flick three of the same bug, or CJ three of the same fish, you can get a replica of it made...
