To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Rick and Morty. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewer's head. There's also Rick's nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Rick & Morty truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Rick's existential catchphrase "Wubba Lubba Dub Dub," which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Dan Harmon's genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them.

And yes, by the way, i DO have a Rick & Morty tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand. Nothin personnel kid

Seriously it's down to it being scifi and some of the concepts Rick puts out are actual science. It's a bit like saying the few nerd jokes in Futurama makes it a high IQ show

It's because of how thourogh and thought out the sci-fi elements are. That's it.

People like the contrast of how the backdrop of fantastic super-science melds with the mediocrity of the main characters.

It is a smart show, it makes stupid people watching it feel science savvy.

To make themselves feel better about being losers who have nobody to discuss the show with because no one watches it.

It's legitimately well written from dialogue to actual decent science fiction concepts.

Compared to things like Big Bang Theory or Modern Simpsons or Modern Family Guy or Always Sunny or Disenchantment Or Broklyn Nine Nine or Star Trek Discovery/Picard it comes across as genius.

It's more the low bar of American Television that gives it the status it has.

It has toilet humor and a fast paced, thought out plot that is greatly varied from episode to episode. The content they pack into a 23 minute or whatever it is episode is pretty impressive, regardless if you enjoy it or not.

It's more clever than smart. It plays with some fun concepts and does a good job of covering most of them.
