Point your camera at something in the woods (berries, mushrooms, veggies) and it will tell you is they are poisonous or not.

But then something goes wrong with the coding and it misidentifies something poisonous as edible.

No I don't think thats a thing yet. Thats a good idea. However how does the app get its information? Does it use internet databases to say whether or not its poisonous and if it does how do you expect people to use the app if they're out in the woods with no reception?

i feel like a less liable app would be a catalogue of various fruits/mushrooms that lists pictures of them. this way it's up to the user to discern whether what they see is safe.
maybe implement a forum or something so people who are unsure can post pictures online and others can help them identify the plants.
either way you need to make them sign some sort of agreement when using the app saying you aren't responsible for anything that happens

Well, I live in Portland. The app can have a listing of all the native things in and around Portland. It narrows the list by a lot and can more easily figure out what your camera is looking at

Why a few weeks? Are you too dumb to remember what you found out is good to eat or not after the first time? >_<

I remember hearing les stroud say to never attempt eating wild plants and fungi unless you are very knowledgeable about them. Even detailed books and pictures may not give you the right info because there can be some subtle difference in the plant that can be fatal if you dont know for sure.

Or if they do get reception, why don't they just google maps walking directions out?

people don't only forage when they're lost

tho if you're actually interested in foraging and edible native plants there are plenty of books out there. i guarantee you there's a plethora of resources for edible plants in the portland area lol

I mean, a book didn't save Christopher McCandless.

So like a built in database decided by region. That could definitely work.

I imagine you might be able to get away with it depending on the wording.

This would probably get you in trouble:
"I know this is Plant X. I know Plant X is safe."

You could probably get away with this:
"I think this is Plant X. I know Plant X is safe."

The latter is good because you can still boast about how great your app is as a tool for determining whether or not a plant is dangerous (assuming your sourcing your information from a trustworthy place). Just make sure choose your words carefully when talking about the camera identification feature.

I did it already for Android you need to give permission to Google for everything camera, etc....for Droids go to your home thing on the phone then hold the middle button so that the Google assist comes on. In the bottom middle you get colorful dots. On the right of those is the keyboard and on the left is the camera. Hit the camera one. It opens up the camera point it at the object on the bottom of the camera thing you get different tabs. I suggest installing Google Translate as it translates anything to the language you want. You get a search function as well, shopping and eating usually for local places close by that offer that food.

THIS HAS BEEN HERE FOR AROUND 3 YEARS. You guys live under a fucking rock.

There is something like that at Home Depot. I used to work there and there is a thing in paint section where they eye the gun at something and it tells your the color number.

Hell, there is a app I used to have that you can aim it at something in Spanish and it would translate to English

This. I think it was an episode he ate wild cucumber. Later he observed the plant was like slightly different that he originally thought or something. You could see he was slightly worried he screwes up.

In around 6 months paint tends to lose it's color even eggshell paint. You might as well repaint a specific wall or the whole room/area touching up will useless I work as a painter. Gloss is different it takes about a year before it loses it's gloss.
