I dont expect them to develop a world map, which will save them a lot of time. I think 2-3 years for part 2

This is Nomura we're talking about... there will be at LEAST a handful of spin off games between now and then that will be required to understand the plot: a handheld card battle game, a mobile gatcha game, a physical board game, and a brand new virtual boy title.

I hope so tbh. As dumb I think the direction they took is, I'm still interested to see if it amounts to something cool/interesting. But I'm anticipating an engine switch or something for next gen.

Haha, but those only happened because "the FF13VS engine needed to be made for KH3", aka Unreal.

A lot of assets and code can be reused so I would expect part 2 to have a slightly short development cycle than part 1.

Which means we might see it in, what, 2025-ish?

Lord willing. But as I mentioned, the concern comes from PS5/XSeX being around the corner.

I dunno. I've been hearing rumblings of them working on part 2 for a few months now, and since they already have a base to work with it shouldn't take too long. Hopefully.

I would hope porting from PS4 to PS5 would be a fairly straightforward process, especially considering Square has to have known for years now that part 2 wasn't going to release before it.

I imagine the porting process would be easy, since they designed the PS5 to allow for that. But I'm concerned with Square's ambition, which has been notably higher than their ability as of late.

But FF7R is a step in the right direction, but even that was announced five years before its release.

It could be literal copy/paste and SE would still find a way to screw it up.

Hell it probably won't even be a porting process. A while back they stated they planned on doing development with mainly current gen in mind for the foreseeable future since both new consoles will be able to play back to this gen. We already know there's going to be some sort of boost mode for compatible PS4 games to utilize the PS5 to its most, so I imagine it will be like that.

Is that right? That's good news tbh. A shame it took them to the end of the generation to curb their ambition. I guess FFXV and the Luminous engine were necessary evils to give FF and SE a chance to get back on track.

Haha, in all seriousness I'm hopeful for a sequel in 2-3 years. And I hope it's a bigger chunk of the original story wise than this part that just released.

I wonder if anything in your save will transfer, or if all the characters will just start at a certain level or something. Or back to level 1 for that respective part.

Final Fantasy 7: dilly dally shilly-shally, the Windows mobile OS only dress up rhythm game featuring Tifa and Aeris that contain critical plot details about how the timeline Shenanigans are working.

And

Final Fantasy 7: super soldiers serendipitously survive severe sentient science, or Final Fantasy S7, exclusively for the Galaxy Note 7.

Except maybe note 13-2. Besides, Crystal Tools has been thrown in the garbage already.

This is more a Nomura problem than a square problem. Just look at versus XIII becoming 15 and still having the true ending DLC cut because of bad sales, or the entirety of the Kingdom Hearts franchise.

I'm sure there will be a save transfer. They might start you back at level 1 but Materia and abilities along with equipment will likely carry over.

The world map will probably be like DQXI so it depends on how far they're going to take us. First continent isn't very big, so the bulk would be the second continent.

I actually haven't played DQXI, so I'm not sure what you mean.

Personally, I wouldn't really care if they didn't have a "proper" world map. Some kind of fast travel between interesting locations would be enough for me. But if they already have a good compromise laid out in DQXI, that sounds fine to me.

As hard as I meme about this game I'm actually pretty glad with the direction they went, and I'm hopeful they put out reasonably spaced sequels. My main concern comes from between near a console generation transition, and they get bogged down trying to grapple with new tech. Or some new engine comes out in 6 months and they decide to transfer everything over and add new features.

No, I've actually only played 1 and 2.

I wanted to work through them a long time ago, and I actually own most of them. But that's a lot of JRPG to get through.

I'm hoping they release the Switch version of DQXI on PS4 and I can get that one. I know it's unlikely, but I played the demo on the Switch and something about that game is extremely rough on my eyes at whatever resolution it runs out.

I might settle down the line, but I am in no rush.
