yeah IR remotes are super advanced now It's also Sony's foresight for allowing a tv remote to control the PS4 through the IR on the TV. They did it with the PS3 also. I too have a ten year old Sony TV. It recognises my Sony systems and can turn them on just by picking the relevant channel on the TV.

Let me just throw in I have a Sony CRT from 94 that can be controlled from most Sony Ir remotes. The only downside is when I am around 2 Sony TVs and was only trying to control 1.
