Wow, that's still pretty low after how hard he got buffed from 4 :( I don't necessarily disbelieve it though he seems to have more trouble killing than you'd expect given his aerials and his air speed is criminal

I don't think you should worry about tournament results. If you want to play Falco than play him, it doesn't matter a great deal until you start hitting the upper echelons of competitive play imo. I like to play Isabelle and both MKLeo and Dabuz think she's bottom 3 lol

Well if it's any consolation some Japense pro players think Doc is a decent character along with the plant.

I still think Isabelle is pretty underrated. A while back ant said that villager is pretty much better in every way except for the jab. Playing her more and reading high player's opinions who do play her I think she has a better boxing game than villager while villager has better zoning. Mostly because of moves like nair, she can do two out of a short hop and tilts like uptilt are god like. Even her landing options arent terrible. B reverse pocket is good and dair is also a good landing tool. Her kill power is fine especially having a kill confirm of her frame 3 jab. Her specials are underwhelming and some don't even work properly at certain stages like PS2 but imo that doesnt put her anywhere near the bottom imo.

And of course Inkling is a good character. How good has been a recent topic of debate with some thinking top 3 and even others thinking top 25 in low high tier from those at the very top.

That's a bad mentality to have imo. Ant said it best when he said that even terrible characters can still be competent in this game. Blaming it on character choice is pretty weak especially at this type of competitive level.

I dunno I might still switch from Falco. I liked him so much when the game came out because it was a huge step up from up 4 but people are better at the game now. Neutral feels pretty bad, I've realized I've always gotten my combos started because I'm good at reading people and less so because I can directly outplay. In other words I'm a very reactive player, but I'm not good at applying pressure.

It's funny because in high school I was like top 2 or 3, and the other best player was kinda my opposite. Super good at aggression and panicking me but always complained that I psyched him out because he didn't expect me to roll into ledge or stuff like that.

idk why my opinion holds weight but the main thing that makes rob very good is that he has very good grounded moves to compliment his projectiles, like his smashes and especially down tilt
no other character has an absurd frame 3 down tilt that's super safe, can juggle across stages, and can create infinites with gyro on stage

anyways falco is generally seen as "pretty solid", with one of the best combo games and damage outputs that's hindered by predictability (up tilt is godly but it's predictable) and a weak neutral that holds him back whereas the other spacies are overall strong with better neutrals

i think villager is very average while isabelle is like a very annoying fly who struggles to kill like pit unless you get wobbled and get upsmashed at like 110% or even higher or get gimped by a 2frame downsmash

the only characters i think are downright bad are kirby, incineroar, and maybe corrin and pit, and even then there is a kirby player on here that wins a decent amount

also life sucks and i'm out of town for a few days cleaning a dusty house and doing chores because my relatives are lazy

anyone want to play tonight? I want to try out Link for a bit then get some ZSS practice for Pound coming up.

I started trying out Pit recently because he seems like a character that really fits the idea of mediocre in pretty much every way. I wanted to see if he could do some things better than I thought he could or if I could exploit certain things to make him feel stronger.

Obvious advantages: arrow spam and well directed arrows are strong but they dont KO so all you can do is gimp and rack up damage. SideB has some armor on it and is deceptive because it has whiffs like Raptor Boost and doesnt put you in free fall.

Obvious disadvantages: more jumps than usual, but upB is just not great because of lack of hit box. His recovery distance is not an issue, but protecting himself can be one. His counter is really slow, but can protect him well enough with how large it is.

Pretty much all of his normals are okay. His air speed and ground speed are okay. His grabs and throws are okay and can be combo starters or used to set up pressure/reads.

The most interesting and fun thing is the arrows.

Oh? Ive only been booted from viewing matches. Ive never had a boot from the lobby without knowing the cause.

Anybody else seeing like a fair amount of lag? Its playable, but kind of making this annoying.

yeah, it was weird. it's happened a few times recently.

im getting a lot of lag from the falco guy, hence, me dropping out of the lobby lol. I thought our game was fine connection wise. let me know if things pick up connection wise and ill join back later.

It doesnt feel crisp to me. Havent played online in a while so could just be that Im now not used to the minimal lag, but matches with Doe were worse than yours and Hannibals.

i was being sarcastic lol. i use yoshi because i like yoshi. i almost always use him in mario games if he is a playable character, and i also think hes fun to use. he could be the worst or best character in the game and i would still use him. with that said, i 100% agree that blaming the character is bad. you dont learn that way.

I think that the biggest issue you have to deal with when maining a bad character in a fighting game is simply understanding why they are bad. In a weird way, that understanding comes from two things: being a rational person who can accept some objective truths about the game you play and knowing what they are. I have some examples of that, but Im not really up to writing all of that down at the moment.

if you play characters with bad recovery, you can accept that and work with that weakness, such as mixing up your recoveries, countering edge guard attempts, etc

Playing a bad character can be kind of interesting in a game like smash due to the potential unknown matchup to the opponent, and this game has so many matchups. For instance, I play Wolf sometimes. Most, if not all, competitive smash players know how to play against Wolf, but when a character like Incineroar or Mii Gunner comes in, it can create an upset because I don't know how to play against them, but they know how to play against Wolf. That's where playing a "worse" or less used character can have an advantage. Of course, in a lot of cases, the better character (Wolf) simply outclasses the worst character, but it is largely dependent on the user.

GGs, pojr. You are really good at certain tactics but you need to experiment with fair, jabs, dair, and other smashes besides Fsmash because they are all really good moves. Your recoveries have gotten better, but the grab game still seems the same. Im no expert on the throws so maybe dthrow doesnt work on the ditto. Didnt seem reliable to me.
