It has none of that and all of that.

The game will never ask you to go out and collect a certain number of a resource, but all of your weapons and armor are made from and upgraded with Monster parts so you'll be doing that anyway.

You hunt the monsters and craft weapons armor based on the resources you gather from them that's like the whole game

So Code Vein is described as Souls like. Why does every other game have that description now? I also beat that new Star Wars before anyone recommends it.

Have any interest in Kingdom Come Deliverance? It'll scratch your open-world itch -- I played it for months and am preparing a second playthrough! It can be a little hard in the early going, since the main character is a no-skill dullard, but it can be pretty fun once you get the hang of it. The edition with all the DLC is usually around $20 or so.

In this instance it is accurate. Code vein is basically like a dark souls clone with anime characters.

Do people often compare that one to Souls? It didn't look like one at all to me, but anyway I believe you can still download Code Vein's demo from PSN if you wanna give it a try.

Persona 5 is incredible. Witcher 3 is my favorite game of all time, which it looks like youve already played. Persona 5 is probably my number 2 (That or kotor). Persona 5 is certainly turn based but if you can get passes that it is very very good. I say this as someone who doesnt typically like jrpgs much.

I have P5 but I couldn't get into it. My friend loves it. At what point should I get hooked? I'm open to give it another shot.

As for Code Vein and Kingdom Come how hard are they? I can usually tolerate difficulty but it isn't what I'm looking for right now

Kingdom Come isn't that hard, honestly. Most of the difficulty comes from:

  • Not knowing how to fight properly. This is period-appropriate, naturally, but is still annoying. Note that this includes melee weapons AND archery. You need to get proper training (semi-early in the game, though you have to opt into it) to do proper blocking and masterstrokes. You need to raise your archery level to LV5+ before you stop hurting yourself in the process.
  • Being ambushed by several enemies at once, which heightens the chance of you dying. Early on, when you don't have any melee prowess, this is often a death sentence, especially if you're overencumbered. As you proceed through the game, having both proper training and other aid (like horses to flee combat), it's less of an issue, though there are still some armored thugs who can be annoying.
  • Saving, which requires drinking an expendible item or sleeping in certain beds. Many new players see the potion part and think, "this is going to suck," without realizing that there are TONS of camps in the wilderness for free saving. You can also rent rooms or be awarded them in the main plot, which helps things further. Of course, most noobs will probably be ambushed at some point and lose lots of progress, so proper saving is a lesson learned early.
If you enjoy the open-world stuff in Skyrim, you'd probably enjoy KCD. Just remember: it's set in medieval Poland and doesn't have any wizards, magic, summons, etc. You can play stealthily, though, if you want. It's just slightly more annoying since equipment has noise/conspicuousness/visibility ratings that stop you from being that great early on.

When I first started playing, I had tons of annoying moments, like losing progress due to being ganked, finding combat too hard, etc. These are all mitigable issues, though, so if you do end up buying it, I'll give you tips if you need. (I also made maps for good loot locations, treasure map rewards, free sleep/save camps, etc.)

I couldnt put it down once I finished that first palace with Kamoshida. If you get that far and still arent into it though, its probably not the game for you.

Another recommendation would be FF12. Its another of the few JRPGs Ive gotten into. Huge open world that opens up piece by piece with it being pretty much completely open halfway through. Very different from usual Final Fantasy games. Story is political and involves warring nations and the use of nuclear type weapons. No random encounters. Combat is sort of turn based based, its sort of like an MMO. If youve played Dragon Age origins or kotor, the combat is very similar. Has a hunt system similar to the Witcher 3 where you look at mark boards around the various cities and talk to the people who post them. You then have to fulfill some requirement to see them after doing a bit of investigating around the area.

Really neat game. A lot of people didnt like it back when it came out because it plays like a WRPG more than a JRPG
