For childhood that is.

After 9/11 it really went downhill.

Too much drug user-like cellphone usage. Less privacy. More fear and paranoia. No more Saturday morning cartoons. Cyber bullying. Terrorism. Now pandemics.

life was super chill during our childhoods and we had a decent amount of tech.

yeah, I'm definitely thankful for the fact that I was in college when social media basically started and already out before it was commonplace.

I know it's not a competition but I feel like our generation is pretty lucky with all the advances we've made. Look at people born in the early 1900s. WW1, WWII, Spanish Flu(1 in 3 people in the world caught it), Great Depression, etc
True, but those were typically events. For us, it's everyday. Maybe not the wars, but you get what I'm saying.

Yep, even though I grew up in the 90s so there may be bias, the 90s felt like the last "carefree" decade. 9/11 changed the dynamics so much and put everyone on edge.

Gen X here; childhood was dirt poor but active and pretty much fear-free.

Teenage years were cool, loved the 80s.

90s were also cool; warm smoky pubs, quietness, good mates.

Life got shitty from around 2005. but that's just work, divorce, and the grind.

The main thing is we didn't have social media, thank fuck.

It's not like carefree decades were numerous. They were actually quite rare.

1900s: Carefree, I guess, minus the Gilded Age shenanigans
1910s: WWI, Spanish Flu
1920s: Carefree, Roaring 20s
1930s: Great Depression, run-up to fascism
1940s: WWII
1950s-1990: Cold War, fear of nuclear war
1990s: Carefree
2001-present: 9/11, War on terror, current bullshit
