A British teen petrified of being isolated with the coronavirus has died following a suicide attempt, according to a report.
Emily Owen, a 19-year-old waitress from Kings Lynn, about 100 miles north of London, died in a hospital Sunday after trying to take her own life due to fears of the mental health impacts of isolation amid the COVID-19 outbreak, the Sun reports.

Days before she was found on March 18, Owen warned relatives she was unable to deal with her world closing in, plans being canceled and being stuck inside during the global pandemic, according to the report.

Owen had been in critical condition since the suicide attempt and relatives later decided to remove her from life support, allowing doctors to prep her organs for donation, according to an online fundraiser posted by colleagues at the pub where she worked.

We are heartbroken that we wont see her breeze through our doors like a tornado of energy again, or hear her distinctive laugh, the post reads. She was a big part of our team and we will miss her enormously.
Owen registered as an organ donor when she was just 12 and her body parts have been donated to four people, including three children, according to the fundraiser, which had raised more than $3,100 as of Wednesday.

Emily would have wanted you to check on your loved in these difficult times, the post reads. She believed the fear of the unknown may drive them over the edge and was planning on volunteering to help these people.

Owens sister, Annabel, said her family was absolutely devastated by the loss, the Sun reports.

Emily was very concerned about coronavirus itself but more concerned about the mental health impact of isolation and the fear of the unknown, Annabel Owen, 21, wrote in a Facebook post, which has since been deleted.

Owen had been diagnosed with high-functioning autism four years ago and struggled to fit in, her sister said.

She didnt want anyone to know, but now she has gone we want to make people know that autism comes in all shapes and sizes, she wrote.

Damn. Anyone who feels like isolation is too much to handle, get in contact with a therapist. You can talk to them from the safety of your own house. And social distancing doesn't mean you can't socialize. Give your mind some time to adjust.

You would think it would help in times like this since they have so many ways to socialize from home. Honestly posting here on CE has helped my mind tremendously.

That's really sad. Sadly this wont be the only case of this either with everyone losing their jobs. I expect an increase in suicide attempts. I hope I'm wrong.

Its definitely a double edged sword. On one hand people that dont deal with these types of issues have access to talk to their friends and be okay. For those that do, seeing nothing but constant posts about it only further hurts them. It sucks.

They need to make that more clear. With all these restrictions in place you can still go out in your yard, or go hiking in the woods and anything like that. You just need to keep your distance stay away from crowds.

That is truly unfortunate. Being isolated from friends and family can really mess with some people. I never thought to this degree....

that and within unrestricted areas. i still blame those tourists for the beach closure it was fine up till friday when they came through.

There was like 5 times the normal amount of people on the trail by my house. Those being one the only thing to use for outdoor exercise is making them crowded in areas >_>.

I fucking tried to tell people this was going to have a huge impact on mental health, that it's not super easy like certain posters claimed. That indefinite quarantine can't be the only solution. It took someone dying from fucking suicide to prove I was right. This is more than likely only the first.

I don't even think her having autism is really all that relevant. Quite a lot of people are considering suicide right now

@TheLastHero I do believe the autism made her less equipped to handle this. Unless her immediate conditions were not sufficiently acceptable, there's no reason to be driven to suicide were she not autistic.

She was though, and they're wired different, react different. That part isn't on her.

It doesn't really take a rocket scientist to figure that saying "she was too hot to die" implies that you wouldn't care if the person happened to be unattractive. Like the value of someone's life is determined by how attractive they are.
