Ehh, I havent talked about it much, but I do like walking through GameStop stores, even if I hardly ever buy anything. Theres something (Nostalgia, maybe?) enjoyable about seeing so many physical copies of games shelved together.

over here, they're a rarity. most people just get videogames online from Amazon or whatever these days...

Girlfriend's brother works for gamestop. He comes in handy for getting us some used games or gamestop exclusive funko pops. I thought about asking him to get me a switch last week, but then i realized his store is closed..

Tl;dr guy sneaks into conference call. Gamestop execs tell employees to stay open and not to expect to keep their jobs if they don't show up. And that they themselves are working from home lol.

Because they're being really fucking shady right now, at least mine is.

Gamestop claimed they were giving out refunds for pre orders, yet when I went to mine to get a refund on my FFVII preorder they claim that corporate needed to clear it, called someone up who claimed to be corporate, they told me no and that if I cancelled the pre order I lose all the credit I put towards it.

Place can't go under soon enough IMO. The fact I just had 30 dollars in store credit on my account from years ago says a lot about how little I've used them this decade.

Yeah, I loved it when they had the big bins of PS1 games and whatnot... they were actually sold for some pretty fair prices, too, so they were worth digging through. Current day Gamestop? Just near-current day games with small discounts, and tons of merchandise that has nothing to do with gaming.

I still like the one I go to.

Gamestop is still open but only for in store pick up. You can't go in them. Last week when AC/Doom came out they were only letting in 6 people at a time out of those 6, 2 of them had to be employees. They don't take any trade-ins at the moment though.

Back when they were in their prime, they were real pieces of work. I remember they would give you next to nothing for a game and then turn it around and make a crazy profit. I went back to a store once and saw them selling a game for like.... 5x what they gave me. As soon as a different viable option popped up I never went back. Good riddance.

I dont like losing them only because it was a good place to browse for physical games. But still all these years later they sold opened games as new. They had time to improve themselves.

I stopped shopping there years ago after I discovered CheapAssGamer and could find new games for similar prices Gamestop was charging for used games.

Maybe I'm wrong but I feel like the average GameStop (or EB Games) employee is not who it used to be. I used to enjoy going in and the people working seemed genuinely interested in what customers wanted.

Now they just seem bitter and clueless.
If I have to go to a retail chain that has video games I'll just go to Best Buy.

They dont offer anything you cant get cheaper and easier elsewhere. Plus, shopping there is an unpleasant experience with all the pressure to pre order shit. Its a business that should fail, it serves no purpose.

I just realized I've only put $5 down for my FF7 pre-order. I should probably cancel and go with best buy, yeah? I have the GameStop powerup rewards, but i don't know what's up with them right now

Based on my experience trying to get a refund, they'll definitely get the game "eventually" and you will be able to pick it up "eventually" and if you don't and they do sell your copy, you'll definitely not lose any credit you had towards it. But if you want to cancel your pre order now, you WILL lose all of that credit.

Honestly it's best to cancel the preorder. By end of April we will get an announcement that Gamestop will be permanently closing several of its locations.

Seriously, they stayed open just long enough to get Doom and Animal Crossing out because they had to. If they start missing FF7, TLOU2, and several other big AAA titles they wont be able to recover.

I feel bad because I used 30 dollars worth of credit that had been sitting around for years.

I can't imagine how bad I'd feel if I had paid the damn thing off entirely with real cash. Now that I think about it, they pushed *really* hard for me to just pay the remainder off a when I pre ordered it 3 weeks ago which I thought was really odd.

They got someone on the line who claimed to be from corporate (although I assumed it was just a regional manager) and he told me I either had to keep the pre order, use the credit right then and there on a physical item in the store (difficult cause they wouldn't even let me in the store and there is nothing I want) or cancel it and lose out on what I had down on it.

Maybe it's because I didn't put any physical money down, but still it was pretty bullshit especially since I saw a press release that said Gamestop was going to refund preorders.

My last midnight launch was Halo ODST. Back when you could pick up a game at midnight, go home and pop in the physical disk and play right away lol.

Ever since digital preloading was a thing I never went back. Playing a game right at 12:01 without having to leave my couch... Gamestop was never going to win the fight over convenience.

Sounds like they are in panic mode and arent aware of their own policies right now. Meaning if you got some other manager on the phone I'm sure there answer would have been completely different.
