Is that necessarily a bad thing? There are some businesses which really need help. Airlines, Cruiseliners, restaurants.

What, they want to be people too

It is if there's a lack of oversight and no restrictions on how they can spend the money. Sort of like when those bankers going on luxury vacations after being bailed out in 2008...

There's also a lot of debate about whether or not cruise companies really need to be bailed out - their ships are flagged out of other countries, they don't follow US employment/labor laws, and they don't have the same type of function that the airline, lodging and food industries do.

People don't consider that a company like American Airlines going under puts over a hundred thousand employees out of work. They'd rather pretend it's all going directly to some CEO so they can smugly declare that the country is broken.

Why can't the corporations take some personal responsibility and pull themselves up by their bootstraps instead of relying on government handouts? Leeches, the lot of them.

Which is why Democrats are OK with bailouts but want guidance on how that money is spent. If we as a country pay billions of dollars into helping a company, that company does not have the right to use it for bonuses and stock buybacks

But they all do. And always will. And it will never change.

What did they need billions for if they can't weather a storm? Oh because they've turned all their billions into offshore accounts, liquid foreign assets, tax havens, etc. They have "no money" and are "broke" and need a handout. A tax free handout.
