I'm not too big on a lot of Japanese music, but I've always liked the more indie rock stuff. Specifically Guitar Vader:

Most people (outside of Japan, at least) know them because a bunch of their songs were featured in both the Jet Set Radio games. It's a shame they weren't bigger, their other stuff outside of the songs people know them for are actually really good.

"Die Happy!" is my favorite, but Wild at Honey and From Dusk are definitely runner-ups.
