It is heartbreaking. Im still in the first 100 pages but it is so sad to read that Sethe and Paul D dont even recollect too much of their past because it is so painful to remember.

BTW, I previously read Bluest Eye, Sula, and Song of Solomon, so feel free to discuss those here too :)

I haven't read Beloved, but I read: The Bluest Eye, Jazz, Paradise, and Song of Solomon.

I have Sula somewhere, but I haven't read it yet.

That sounds like a line from the song "Breakfast at Tiffany's".

Bluest Eye has me sobbing near the end, when the girls plant those flowers (IIRC) and they pray for them to grow, for the health of the baby.

Toni Morrison does this thing, I dont even think its foreshadowing, where she gives crucial plot points early in her books, and they expands on them much later.

So by the end of the book, I knew that the seeds wouldnt sprout, and it broke me down to read it since I knew that their act of love and support was ultimately useless :(

it has been years since I've read either one, but they're definitely not as memorable as The Bluest Eye or Song of Solomon were, IMO.

I can barely remember Jazz's basic plot, but I can't remember anything about Paradise.

I would start with The Bluest Eye. Its her first book but wow it is incredible. Raw and unflinching. I recommend it to everyone in the world.
