YAKIMA, Wash. (KING) Fritzi Bryant, 106, lives in an assisted living facility in Yakima, Washington. Shes one of the states oldest residents and one of the few still alive who remembers the Spanish flu of 1918.

"I remember my parents speak about it. I was only 4 or 5 years old," Bryant said. "It was very serious."

Like the coronavirus, the Spanish flu was a global pandemic. At least 50 million people died from it between 1918 and 1919.

Americans donned gauze masks to try to prevent the spread. Bryant's parents, Carl and Anne Schassberger, were part of the effort. Carl was a tailor, tasked by the government to make masks instead of clothes.

"They wanted him to make masks, which he did. My mother was helping him too," Bryant said.

Bryant is one of the 2.5 million Americans living in nursing homes or assisted living facilities who are under quarantine and cannot have visitors. Her daughter, Nancy Frame, used to visit her every day, but now shes dropping off items like candy, cards and flowers at the Landmark Care and Rehabilitation facility's side entrance.

"At first, I was devastated and worried, but Ive accepted it. They're taking beautiful care of her, and she's so positive. The facility is immaculate, and I have a lot of faith in them," Frame said.

Quarantine isnt keeping Bryant down.

Advice not found. Checking the link.

"As for the best way to handle the coronavirus, this centenarian said we should soldier on and not take unnecessary chances.
"There's no sense in playing it down," Bryant said. "You have to look it square in the faceand do everything you can in your power to make it better."

Uhh, great advice.

This topic title is very misleading. It says shares advice. I dont see any advice given on how to deal with this. Its just her story but no lessons learned or anything like that.

Not by the disease itself, but the impact it will have on our global economy.

It's just one step closer to the nightmare that is a technocratic global superpower. Mainstream media spreads fear and misinformation, small businesses shut down because they have no income while large corporations flourish, government swoops in and people allow them to take away basic freedoms in exchange for "protection" and "containment", when the only demographic age group at serious risk for the virus are people aged 60 and up or those with weakened immune systems, such as cancer patients.

Guys, the CDC calls this the 1918 Pandemic (or 1918 H1N1 virus). Racists might start assaulting Spanish people if you use this kind of loaded language. Please watch your language.

A bit like how some racists have attacked Chinese people because Trumpd keeps calling COVID-19 the Chinese virus?
