Obesity is a genuine risk indicator, afaik, due to the pressure put on the heart and lungs.

I read one story about a family that had like 8 cases and already lost three people and a doctor or somebody was like, "These are all healthy young people" but in one recent picture they were all fairly overweight but probably not by American standards.

Each culture, imho, is going to show a slightly different risk profile.

It just seems like american confidence and perceived exceptionalism has translated into 'hey, we're fine bro'.

I've been told that in some studies 60% of americans are obese, though that could be a metric system hoax of course.

Tbh most of the people at my work actually mentioned that so many Americans being overweight was a risk factor, along with diabetes and heart issues. Nobody up here feels immune.

For comparison purposes:

Six months ago:

"Hey, I'm throwing up and have vertigo, can't come in."

Work: "But how will x get done? Well, if you feel better later, feel free to come in, wink wink."

Now: "Hey, my cold's feeling better, just a little cough now."

Work: "You'd best stay home. Keep us posted." Yep, over a cold.

They arent closed yet, but they may be soon enough. Everyone is scared, the people up here tend to be self-sufficient types and that isnt possible. On the plus side, for the first time ever no one gives you static for calling out sick.

The entire family was fat.

@Artemis86 , I get the 'rugged individualism' thing, I really do. But there's a leap between that and outright denial.

I've been to the USA and I love it, but it's kinda weird how this isn't part of the convo.
