There was a lynel in Zora's domain who I finally beat, after breaking several weapons and using up most of my items after I botched a dodge and flurry rush combo.

So I got my shock arrows and went to face vah ruta. Did the puzzle, and wish there was a way to know if you got all the treasure since they don't let you revisit the interior of the divine beasts for some reason.

Also mipha being dead... that means all the champions are dead inside the divine beasts aren't they. Seriously this Zelda story is really melancholic, first we lose against Ganon and Link wakes up after 100 years only to find out he's basically too late to save most of hyrule?

But man mipha's grace is awesome! Is it supposed to be as broken as it seems? It restores my hearts when I die like a fairy, plus adding bonus hearts, and I just need to wait half an hour for it to recharge? Damn good skill.

I don't know if I was supposed to do this divine beast first or what I'm supposed to do now. Every place I explore seems like I'm not supposed to be there yet. There's a tower completely covered in purple goop, how do I even get rid of that. It didn't even disappear when I shot a yellow goop eye with an arrow, unless there was another one I missed.

And those damn flying guardians are the worst. I can't do the shield attack on them, and they don't get hurt by arrows. When will I be able to defeat them?

the game kinda pushes you in that direction first yeah. for me, there was a zora hanging out somewhere who told me to go there.

pretty sure you dealt with that in the first "temple" but if you dont remember theres a eye monster thingy that if you kill, it will kill the goop around it. its basically all over the tower.

just gotta get better that deflecting their beams. or ancient arrows.

Mipha's Grace feels broken at first, but honestly it's usefulness wears off as you get better at the game and get more experienced with the cooking system. I still think it the best power to get first when you play because that is when the skill is most useful.

The game kinda pushes you towards Vah Ruta as the first one to do, but you're free to tackle them in any order you wish.

But yeah, that tower covered in purple goop you found (I'm assuming it's the one on top of the castle north of Zora's Domain) can be climbed, nothing is necessary to do so, it's just a bit of a puzzle to find out how to climb it. Most towers end up having a slight puzzle to figure out how to reach them or climb them, it's kinda neat.

Mipha's grace has dropoff with how useful it is.

If you're at the tower I'm thinking of, there is a way to maneuver around and get up there

As for treasure chests, do you have the Sheikah Sensor+? it lets you search for anything in your compendium, including chests. You can scan for chests before leaving the Divine Beast

gives you the ability to leap pretty high thereby eliminating A L O T of climbing time. fucking went in cold for the majority of my playthrough and i went for it last. it would easily have cut down my travel(read: climbing) time by hours.

Did it. I honestly don't know what's a puzzle and what's me doing things in what I consider to be my own weird/obtuse/out-of-the-box ways.

I basically climbed a patch of broken stone building that didn't have purple goop, and quickly jumped and glided to a climbable patch just above the purple stuff, and made it to the top. Half the time it feels like I'm doing stuff that I'm not "supposed" to do and that there's a correct way in the game, like waiting for the hookshot or some other Zelda item.

Speaking of is that iconic weapon really not in this game?

Oh damn, I didn't even think of that! Gonna try to set the sensor to chests next time I'm in a dungeon like area, see how far it picks up.

Carrying a lot of wood and something to light it with can alleviate a lot of climbing issues, though honestly for me part of the fun is trying to find ways to climb things that my level of stamina really shouldn't allow for

Did you have to beat the Lynel in the end? That's the part I'm stuck at right now and I'm thinking of just going after the arrows that are in the tree trunks but unsure if there are 20 of them.

I tried attacking the Lynel but it kills me in one hit and I end up going through like 6 weapons to get him at half health. Feel like I'm missing something.

There are more than 20 shock arrows there.

Anyway TC, just do what feels natural. Unless you're trying to power game it doesn't really matter what order you do things.

I think this is actually the coolest aspect of the game. Very rarely does it feel like I'm doing anything the correct way. It's pretty impressive game design to make that happen.

There's one tower you can't climb from the base and you have to jump from a nearby cliff and glide. Only one like that though.

Also, aren't there enough shock arrows on the way to Zora's Domain? Lots of shock-arrow Lizalfos.

Theres plenty of shrines where there is only one way to proceed. Its nice to get both the rigid puzzles of the shrines and the free-form problem solving of navigating the environment.

True, i mostly find this when navigating from one place to another. But even a lot of shrines I've completed and then realized that i was "supposed" to do them a different way. But generally, you're right that the shrines feel much more rigid.

I solved one of the motion control shrines by getting frustrated, flinging my hands around wildly and coincidentally doing so at an angle that sent the ball where it needed to be, which I'm assuming is 100% the intended way to complete that particular puzzle

The game said I needed 20 for some reason which annoyed me because when I finally went to fight vah ruta it was literally only 4, one for each purple blob on his sides. Hell smacking the ice cubes away was more annoying because I could never get the timing right.

I'm glad I beat the lynel but if I'd known that's all the shock arrows I would need (heck I already had 5 before being anywhere near Zora's domain) I could have gotten mipha's grace and then battled lynel. Oh well.

The game is intentionally (for better or worse) very open, so there's no "correct" order to do things. The only times you'll know you're not supposed to be somewhere yet is because you simply can't get there, maybe because you don't have the appropriate tool. But this seldom happens.

And yes, Mipha's grace is pretty broken. But you'll eventually find its not even the most useful guardian skill.

Embittered by the low number of dungeons and the breakable weapon system, but emboldened by the fact that the Master Sword became empowered and unbreakable within the divine beasts, I spent 80% of my playtime in BotW gathering hearts from shrines so I could get the Master Sword before doing them. I wanted to at least enjoy the sword if it was going to be breakable everywhere else.

I didn't know the champions each gave skills, otherwise I probably would have sucked it up and done at least the bird waayyy earlier.

The game did make it seem like you could sneak past him even though he hears like a bat and somehow always knows it's you, never like a bird or something innocuous.

Anyway I cooked a potion that increased my attack power by a lot, using all the materials I've been collecting (my policy is basically see something shiny, keep collecting until you can no longer see anything shiny onscreen, then continue on with your objective) and that's how I was able to finally defeat him.

Looool. Seriously the motion control bits were a surprise, I thought we were done with that kind of stuff Nintendo. And I thought you could turn them off like with arrow aiming.

Actually now that I think about it, since I'm playing with the switch pro controller I wonder what playing with the joycons would be like for those sections and others. As well as arrow aiming.
