In the original 1971 film, the Oompa Loompas sang about vices that were the undoing of the naughty children. Gluttony, being spoiled, etc.
Each song consisted primarily of a five-line stanza in an aabbc rhyming scheme, plus the "doompa dee doo" embellishments. I thought it could be interesting to come up with some Oompa Loompa songs that might be in the movie if it were made nowadays. My first thought for an updated vice: social media addiction. Here we go... Oompa Loompa doompa dee doo I've got another puzzle for you Oompa Loompa doompa dah dee If you are wise you'll listen to me What do you get when you stare at your phone Do you have friends or are you alone Why don't you try calling them to talk Or you could join them on a nice walk Then you'll really be friends! Oompa Loompa doompa dee dah If you are social you will go far You will live in happiness, too Like the Oompa Loompa doompa dee doo! ... Copied to Clipboard!

Good start, but I feel it's missing the black comedy aspect of the songs Hmm, good point. The original songs have a bit of a shameful tone ("What are you at, getting terribly fat?" and "What do you get from a glut of TV? A pain in the neck and an IQ of three!") The only original song that sort of commiserates with the child is, oddly enough, Veruca Salt. It puts the blame more on her parents than her. ... Copied to Clipboard!

poor violet Apparently the original song was going to focus more on her poor manners; and in fact, even in the final version the Oompa Loompa song for her ends with "given good manners, you will go far." But I guess they figured they would go right to the point, since her gum-chewing was pretty much her defining characteristic. ... Copied to Clipboard!
