the other day i had to hit the brake pretty hard, after which i got a scent of a burnt smell. and the brakes became much weaker, like i had to push the pedal to the bottom to get anything at all after that, which was a bit scary.
and when i could finally stop i put my hands over the wheels and they were definitely hot, but only on the left side. then i let the car stay for like an hour. when i got back, the wheels had cooled down, and the brakes worked like normal again, as far as i can tell. i haven't noticed any problems after that. so, question 1: what the hell happened with brakes temporarily losing grip like that? and 2: is there any chance it cause some small permanent damage that i can't feel just yet? should i go take it in to check it? --- ... I've had this happen due to icy roads. Get it checked. Brake pads are probably shot too
