"The Las Vegas-based company operates the Bellagio, MGM Grand, Mandalay Bay, The Mirage, Luxor, New York-New York, Excalibur, and Park MGM. It also owns 50 percent of CityCenter, which includes Aria and Vdara.
A statement from Chairman and CEO Jim Murren said the temporary closures are for the good of our employees, guests and communities.
It is now apparent that this is a public health crisis that requires major collective action if we are to slow its progression, Murren said. We will plan to reopen our resorts as soon as it (is) safe to do so and we will continue to support our employees, guests, and communities in every way that we can during this period of closure.

Vegas is basically screwed.
The Casinos employ like half our city.

I honestly didn't know that one company owned all of those. I figured they were all owned by different groups. That company must be staggeringly rich.

But yeah, that's going to cripple Vegas's economy for a while. I'd imagine a lot of tourist towns are going to get slammed by this, really.

MGM and Cesars collectively own almost the entire strip.

Everyone I know (myself included) has received credit to swap the airfare for new tickets, so long as you use them within 12 months of when you purchased the original tickets.

The only way to have prevented the spread in the U.S. would have been to ban all flights from China/Asia when it first broke out in December/early January.

Which would have ****** over Hawaii (as the Democrats in charge here don't see anything wrong with making 75%+ of the economy here solely based on tourism) and California.

So of course Democrats would have cried about it.

Carolyn Goodman was trying to downplay all of this the other day and get people out into the casinos. Between this and her handling of the homeless issue downtown, she's really shit the fucking bed.

Whats wrong with the homeless ordinance? Literally nothing changed. They still litter the streets of downtown. What a shame. Beautiful part of the city just turned disgusting. Its only MGM properties and the Wynn that are closing tho right

"MGM already started making significant furloughs and layoffs, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported"

"These decisions are never made lightly, and we deeply regret the hardship it will place on these individuals and their families, MGM president and chief operating officer Bill Hornbuckle said in a letter seen by the paper."

Looks like a lot of people will be left out in the cold (or Vegas heat)

So far it appears that way. Apparently Ceasars and Las Vegas Sands properties will remain open, among some others, but they have closed buffets and I think are reducing seating capacity at gaming tables and shutting down some slot machines to create a separation between players.

OPEN:
  • Bally's
  • Caesars Palace
  • The Cromwell
  • Flamingo
  • Harrah's
  • The Linq
  • Nobu Hotel
  • Paris
  • Planet Hollywood
  • Golden Nugget
  • The Fremont
  • The D
  • Golden Gate
  • Four Queens
  • Binions
  • Main Street Station
  • The California
  • Venetian
  • Palazzo.

shes a fucking idiot just like her dumbass husband. Heres a fun fact, most Las Vegas residents cant vote for the mayor since the way the borders work only a small fraction of residents are actually considered Las Vegas. I technically live in Enterprise so I cant vote for mayor but shes still my mayor.

Actually there was an update, Reno casinos don't have to close completely, just follow strict guidelines (every other machine shut down to give space, no more than 3 to a card table, constant disinfecting by cleaning staff). Bars and dining areas still have to close.

Vegas is a metropolitan city.
The actual city of Las Vegas is only a small part.

im not sure I fully understand it. I mostly lived in Henderson,(which is really just Las Vegas lite) we have our own mayor here so I never knew this until I moved to Las Vegas and found out during election season.
