If this goes south, expect even some hardcore Trumpists to turn. He does have a cultlike following, but the thing is with believing in someone that way is, your faith is more fragile than it seems. When you've spent years lying to yourself, making rationalizations for obvious lies and contradictions, disbelieving your own eyes and ears... just one serious doubt can be enough to send it all tumbling down like a house of cards. Even if the number of people are small, Trump isn't in a situation where he can afford to lose anyone. He hasn't expanded his base and he has no way to do that now. He is depending on both huge turnout from his rabid followers *and* low turnout from the rest of the country. If he loses even a few percent of his base, he's in big trouble.
