do you agree that the younger people (who have a much better chance at survival) should get first rights to treatment?

Also why

Older people are at highest risk of dying without intervention so this makes no sense

Young can fight it. The old cannot, or has the lower chance. Therefore the old should be the priority. Unless the young has a serious underlying disease.

Last I checked, that's how triage works. If resources are limited, you treat the people who are most likely to respond positively to treatment and survive.

I hope so. I dont like the idea that everyone isnt getting the same treatment but realistically some places have to make the decision - at least the protocol sounds legit

It's not about who had the better chance when both patients have a chance at death - you have to decide is it worth potentially saving a 20yo or a 90yo

Absolutely. A young person in acute distress in need of intubation is going to stand a better chance of recovery than an old person.
I would hate to have to make those decisions, but it's simple triage.

You have to go with the person with the highest chance of recovery which would be the young person 99% of the time
