The Bat's Cave debuted in the 1943 Batman film serial where it was used for interrogation purposes. Batman would tie a criminal to a chair and leave the bats to swarm around them until they were willing to divulge information.

In hindsight, that seems more practical than to have an entire cave thematically patterned after his superhero persona which only he and his butler know about. It's kinda like if Bruce Wayne wore bat-themed socks.

It's not the best.

It's kind of amusing to see Batman get beaten up so often, but the racism is more than a little distracting.

Not as bad as the 1949 serial. Not even close.

The 1997 Batman and Robin is more entertaining than the 1949 Batman and Robin.
