I think that stopping all business and enforcing lockdowns will do way more long term harm than lesser restrictions and more virus spread, yes. Economic shockwaves are *massive* and will paralyze us.

It's possible. But that threat is on the horizon. We will worry about that then. The virus threat is here now. It has arrived, and we're at war with it.

Went to my local mexican restaurant for lunch and it was dead, what is normally 100+ people at lunch time had 5 people in it. The staff were saying they will probably shutdown because it was costing more to keep the lights on than they were making from customers. I guess I didnt think about it like that, businesses just closing down due to no foot traffic.

I agree. Some stores have already closed for good around me. And the grocery stores keep having empty shelves since people are hoarding items prepping for months long lockdowns.

The AICPA expects the IRS to announce this week that the April 15 tax deadline will be extended by up to as much as 90 days. No link--got an email about it at work.

Just waive returns this year up to like $3000 or some other arbitrary number. If you owe $3001 then you'd just owe $1. Maybe $500 but you pay for anything over $500.

I owe $800...whether I pay it in April or July I still have to come up with an extra $800 so pushing it back a few months doesn't really help me.

You think that will do anything? Look, the government is forcing people to lose their jobs to keep old people from dying from a disease. This is not going to do enough, and by the time we can all go back to work, how many jobs will be left, hmm? We are looking at a 1930s situation, globally.

I would like to know how far people have thought this out. How are kids doing to do online school if they have 1 computer at home and 2 siblings in entirely different grades AND mom has to work from home too? How are families going to get things like dentistry and physical/mental health therapy done? How about repairs? Your roof leaks? Your plumbing breaks? Your internet goes dark?

These are not issues that can be put off for months.

But if Italy keeps having hundreds of deaths each day it'll probably be mid-April to May before they lift theirs

It's not just old people dude. The reason it's only old people dying right now is that the hospitals haven't been overwhelmed. There is a threshold, that if crossed, will result in a lot more deaths.

You don't have to eat if you're dead.

I don't think you understand that as important as economics are in this whole situation the virus is more deadly than people being poor. It is also easier to solve after the fact than a virus we can't contain. There is definitely going to be an economic hit on many people that they won't recover from, but dead people don't recover anything. If you're alive then you have a better chance to say the least.

Heard from a friend that works pretty high up the food chain at CVS that they're preparing for a nationwide lockdown/quarantine starting on Wednesday. This would coincide with the CDC report (rumor?) that the virus will peak in roughly 2 weeks time.

Just be prepared guys.

Wife reported that a fellow employee came into work with a low grade fever. The fact that this person was even there pissed a bunch of people off.
