They combined a 2-week closure with our 2-week spring break so I'm not back to work till April 10th.

In Canada its 3 weeks total and the teachers get full pay. Full pay to day drink and shitpost and play vidya for 3 weeks

BTW, I teach middle school in Los Angeles. I was having a very stressful year (just 7th grader nonsense, plus I'm in charge of yearbook, I've had lots of suspension/expulsion hearings in the district office, I was in the middle of my formal evaluation, and I was also taking college classes at one point)

This "break" came just in time for me.

I get paid for it [don't work], and the leads [my boss] are getting paid double time because it hazard pay or some shit since they will be there next week, the week that we should still be in school, and she's going to feed everyone that week when they come in. Just sack lunches.

Im on a salary so its paid, at least for the time being. The only catch is we might have to teach those 2 lost weeks in the summer

This first week, the one were we should still be in school, we're counting them as our snow days this year.

My mom is in the same situation.

She's a salaried employee so she's getting paid during the downtime.

But whether or not she's still getting paid during the inevitable makeup days remains to be seen.

What exactly is the purpose of closing the schools for a month if most students will go out and be in crowded places anyway? By the time they get back, I will guarantee you some students will have been infected then and will most likely suspend classes indefinitely.

Teacher here too. Im in Texas. We had spring break this past week...and they racked on another week of closed schools till the 22nd so far. Im sure theyll reassess and probably close for longer as we get closer to the 22nd.

Its crazy. Ive also had a super rough semester, and this couldnt have come at a better time, honestly. Needed this mental health break for sure

Closed Louisiana schools for 30 days until April 13. And we were told that no make-up days are required because its a state/federal proclamation. So a month vacation for me.
