The console doesn't have the best reputation now since most of the games have been ported elsewhere but actually having a 360 during that generation was pretty excellent.

It had that one year head start and yet it still had next gen feeling games like Call of Duty 2, Elder Scrolls Oblivion and Dead Rising extremely quickly.

It had stuff like Xbox Live Summer of Arcade which introduced many people to games like Super Meat Boy and Limbo.

It had the exclusives like Gears of War, Halo 3, Mass Effect (which was Microsoft published at the time) and Alan Wake.

For a strong while developers really struggled with porting games to the PS3 so the 360 was the best console to play third party games. Games like Bioshock even just came to 360 first while it went to the PS3 late. PS3 was pretty rough for those first few years so 360 and Wii just dominated the conversation.

It's a shame that RROD, Kinect and Microsoft's shift in priorities after 2010 hurt its legacy. PS3 started to gain crazy momentum from 2009 and managed to close the gap.

The 360 could have been the greatest console of all time. Amazing how Sony made a come back after that disastrous start for the PS3

I think in the long term people don't associate a lot of its great games with the console despite that being the place most people played them if that makes sense?

Bioshock and few others were exclusive back then to.

The 360 really was the 1st popular home console online experience. Every game had a strong online community last gen especially on the 360. Its never been the same after.

I have a lot of good memories of playing Gears of War online. I always preferred the simple online games and not all of this progression and stuff that's there now. I get that it's to keep people hooked on it but I'm not that kind of gamer.

Man I completely forgot about RRoD. It was a big issue but they completely fixed the issue so ultimately its always just been a launch footnote to me

I got it right before GTAIV came out lol. Console got repaired no issue at least.

I remember downloading that Bioshock demo and wondering when the game would start.

Buying Crackdown just for the Halo 3 beta was fun. Especially since that game ended up being a blast.

Saints Row felt like the next evolution of GTA with that physics engine. Another great demo.

I have no reason to pull out the 360 now but I have a lot of great memories with it. I think it's one of those 'You had to be there' consoles for sure. A lot of that is due to Microsoft not locking down exclusives but that's not really a bad thing anyway. It's great that these games can be played better elsewhere now. Meanwhile PS3 stuff is either stuck on dated hardware or re-released as something you need to buy again.
