The story falls off in the last 1/3rd of the game, but man, I love everything up to Andrew Ryan. I love the steampunk aesthetic, the game still controls brilliantly (though a bit archaic by today's standards), the Big Daddies are still foreboding monstrosities, and I love the body horror aspects of the game. I had to play with it a little to get it to stop flickering stupidly on Windows 10, but it works fine now.

I agree with you on the story. Gameplay-wise I'm not a big fan of FPS games where most of the enemies just run at you

On paper I love the game, but actually playing it, it just feels... off? Its got this certain element of jank to it where imo nothing really feels satisfying to do, nothing really grabs me in

I played the game because it came free with Infinite, which I was a lot more excited to play.
I figured I'd just try out Bioshock 1 for a few hours then switch.
Ended up having more fun with the first one than Infinite.

I replayed it about a year ago and had a good time with it. It's definitely showing some signs of age and the guns, especially the pistol, were hard to aim with at first. It's one of those games I wish I could play again for the first time just to experience the story and the atmosphere.

I had the same issue, I think it's a common problem

Yeah. The remastered version has lighting issues above 60FPS, and doesn't respond to Vsync unless you force it into windowed mode. Of course, the game doesn't have true native borderless windowed mode. So, had to go find a utility that could do it for me.

A big issue I had with the game was that it extremely obvious Adam would betray you in like the first 20 minutes of the game. And because of that, I was constantly thinking how idiotic it was to side with the literal first guy who speaks to you in a place like this. Naturally, with this mindset there was a lot of eye rolling at the "Would you kindly" twist on the meta commentary level. But it did provide an explanation on why the MC was such a moron the whole game.

Bioshock has some great atmosphere. Unfortunately, the philosophy and moral choice system are really heavy-handed and mostly avoid complex, moral grey areas. The writing is almost as rigged and preachy as the book it's critiquing. The deep cuts to Atlas Shrugged were interesting though... I've never seen any other game comment so directly on a work of literature like that.

I love the atmosphere in Infinite, but I was disappointed by the corridor-y 2 gun gameplay.
