Overall this definitely used to be Half-Life 2, but then it dropped a lot. So Resident Evil 4? Metal Gear Solid 3? Mega Man X? Maybe Symphony of the Night? HL2 is probably still up there too albeit diminished.

In the bracket it would be God of War for sure. Maybe that competes overall too.

Probably mgs3 as of 2015. The decline of the metal gear franchise could mean bad things for it though and I wouldnt rule out re4 rebounding a bit thanks to re2 and the upcoming re3. Symphony getting pushed a couple percent higher thanks to Netflix and Simon in smash might also be enough. though thinking on it makes me question our Netflix boost narrative a little. If it was already that high in 2015, that explains a lot of alucards 2018 performance by itself.

Personally i think mmx ended up a little overrated due to its match against FFX happening on the same day as melees pointless rally against gsc. Not by a large amount probably but enough that I dont think it really belongs in the conversation.

It absolutely used to be a contender. Between those Valve gave up on the series and indeed video game development in general. Maybe with Alyx coming out HL2 will regain a little.

I'm not so much of a half life fan, but it was incredibly influential and spawned one of the top modding scenes of all time

I remember HL2 at the time having incredible physics. Portal just seemed like an average puzzle game to me. Maybe i was missing something with it.

I'd say it's become Symphony of the Night overall, if you don't consider it an RPG. For this bracket in particular, it's either God of War or Last of Us, assuming Dark Souls counts as an RPG, but anyone who's 100% confident about their choice of those two is lying.
