I'm in Minnesota for those curious where there are zero confirmed cases and everything is quiet, but ya never know when the first one will hit.

I honestly feel like I did it out of boredom, I highly doubt it'll ever hit a point where having all this shit will save my life, but still.

I think I may have gone too heavy on things that require "cooking" or appliances to make. I got shitloads of frozen foods (veggies, fish sticks, garlic bread, chicken breasts) which require a microwave/oven, and I also got a bunch of rice and pasta, which requires boiling water. Now, the odds of this thing ever getting to a point where electricity gets shut off are non-existently low, but on the off chance they do, all I really have are several cans of beans and a thing of mixed nuts

Also stocked up on hand sanitizer, disinfectant wipes, and hand soap, really need to be mindful of cleaning myself after getting home every day. Shower in the afternoon in addition to my morning shower.

So we'll see. Odds are I just bought $100 in groceries. Maybe I go back again tomorrow and stock up on some other things that don't require cooking/water/microwaves.

Any suggestions on long-lasting items that fit the requirement of not needing a microwave/appliance/boiling water to make?

thank god oregon has a law which prevents marking up prices in an emergency at least in supermarkets and gas stations.
someone did this back in 2007. the gas station owner marked up his gas to 4$ a gallon when it was 2.50$ at the time. he got fined and shut down for days.

Back in the Army when we got back from the field we were told to toss the MREs.I would give my extra boxes out to friends.Kids hungry ok close your eyes and reach into the box.

We had swine flu at that time but it wasnt a scare.

I think it's stupid to panic buy but if you have a bit of extra cash and will get around to using it all eventually, what's the downside? You don't have to go grocery shopping for a while.

I live in the Caribbean and we have a confirmed case in the Dominican Republic and other neighboring islands in addition to cruise ships coming in everyday. I've stocked up, spending almost $300 on:

water (Only have 3 cases)
Cans of black beans, greens, diced tomato and corn
75 lbs of Rice
sazon seasoning
chicken bullion
canned beef
pasta (I only have a few boxes)
marina sauce

Off the top of my head. I still need to go back as I live in a household of 4 and my parents nor my sister, all practicing medicine, aren't taking this seriously. When China of all places closes down their slave factories, you know it's serious. Money never lies. If they're leaving money on the table and halting manufacturing of literally everything to be shipped around the world, you know it's serious.

yeah my concern is most of this stuff is useless if an electricity/power shortage comes into play... like me, you're just left with beans and greens

and canned beef i guess which sounds horrendous

Well you got your soups, various fish(tuna) and other canned meats. Veggies and fruits.

Hell there are also microwave dinners you just gotta reheat in a microwave. Shelf stable requiring no refrigeration/freezer. Can be eaten without reheating(some anyways, might depend on the meal)

I just think that most people are blowing the situation out of proportion. Its one thing if you live in the same town where there are confirmed cases of coronavirus, but the people living out in the bumblefucks stocking up for the apocalypse and running around wearing masks seem silly to me. The chances for you getting infected are very low so theres no point in getting this worked up

Yes. People don't show symptoms until a week or so later. They'll feel fine on Monday and go home Friday, then call in sick Monday despite having spent the past week infecting everyone else without knowing.

Peaches and Pineapples are some great canned fruits to get. Also toilet paper is something great to stock up on. I stocked up on a bunch of stuff too. Some criticize those that do but it better to have a stockpile now then try to get it during the possible lockdowns. I like in an urban city so it only a matter of time.

Sounds like someone isn't prepared. Way too many people that think "oh I wont get sick" end of getting sick anyway. Regular flu season- happens all the time. Then people wonder "why did I get sick? Must be someone else's fault! I'm healthy" yet the answer is: not being prepared.

Being safe and prepared isn't paranoid. Do you honestly want to go through a store that's super packed and hope they have something left?

Prepared for what? What do you think is going to happen? How is stocking up on food going to protect me from contracting a virus? You honestly believe that its going to be impossible to find food soon? Every couple of years a need diseases appears and people act like its the end of the world and start stocking up, but nothing happens and the disease is contained within a couple of months. There's been mad cow disease, swine flu, bird flu, zika, and ebola and things always stayed under control.
