I quit my job as a web developer on Monday, I had been there since late November as a contract-to-hire developer.

Basically:
- I was already pretty unhappy at this place, not a good fit culturally, really backward practices as far as development was concerned, poor communication and structure all aorund, and generally just uninteresting tedious work
- There was a two month period where I did not receive any check at all (they claim it was cause they missed my change of address, even though i told them pretty early (a couple weeks before I moved and all of my invoices)
- After two months, I finally got a paycheck...which bounced when I deposited it into the bank

after the last one, I straight up said i'm out.

Thankfully I got a massive paycheck with pretty much everything but the very last week yesterday, no problems so far, but I'm still pretty annoyed about the whole thing, and currently unemployed. AMA

I did this once many years ago when i quit a very shitty internship with similar problems. I also deliberately used more than enough TP to clog the toilet and took two TP rolls with me.

this is why we need more automation, also if your job is automated and you have no money to eat there should be no safety net if your unemployment runs out too bad im not paying for you you can shit on your own dime, thanks

Some beef short ribs that I seared, deglazed w/ brandy, and threw in the crock pot for 7 hours with crushed tomatoes, sauteed onion/garlic

Thanks for the offer but I'm still deciding if I even want to stay in the field. Either way taking it easy for a bit and not necessarily looking to rush into a new role.

fair enough but web developers are in demand rn and it's a good paying field. i'd stick with it since it's not going to die any time soon

eh ymmv
  • virtually all skills are self teachable via online courses, tutorials, documentation, etc. with this, a lot of people will hire you regardless of previous experience with tech and frameworks, a good skill to have is picking up new things quickly.
  • interviews SUCK. coding in some headless environment under pressure, and often times with questions that have literally no relevance to anything you would actually do on the job. also skewed towards the stuff that you do in a cs degree (and never again outside of these interviews)
  • work wise it really depends on the org. aside: this place gave me mindless piss easy work (mainly frustrating, cause the absolutely asinine nature of our code base meant an absolutely absurd amount of duplicated work-the main project was two sites, exactly the same except for colors, fonts, and copy, but in two entirely separate git repos-it was the same damn client too so it's not like they needed to be separated for any gd reason)
  • other places definitely can be more rigorous and use more cutting edge tech for complex web apps. my previous role gave a lot of varied and interesting work
going rate...i'm in san francisco so it's pretty fucking good ngl

A lot of the general culture in software development itself is the same. It's not like web development is unique in that regard.

I know that, web stuff is pretty much the only development I have interest in doing tho. So if not that than something completely different

Actually now that I think of it, generally in my experience front end types like my self tend to be a less like your absolute stereotypical dev
