Yep article I linked to kinda gave update to situation. His wife, daughter, son, and person who drove him to hospital infected. They all had it for a while before being confirmed. The 1,000 self-quarantine kinda shows how bad this might get.

Lol Im sure all those 1,000 people will actually self quarantine. This is very bad.

Here it is will quote a part of it
https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/04/nyregion/coronavirus-nyc-yeshiva-university.html

Nine people connected to the man who was confirmed as New Yorks second case of the new coronavirus have all tested positive for the illness, state officials said on Wednesday. The new cases included the mans wife; his son, 20; his daughter, 14; and a neighbor in Westchester County, who drove the man to the hospital. A friend of the man who spent time in close proximity with him also tested positive for the virus, as did that mans wife and three of their children, Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo said. The new confirmed cases, which brings the number in New York State to 11, came as state and local health officials were scrambling to identify the scope of the illnesss spread from the Westchester father. So far, about 1,000 people were being asked to self-quarantine, Mr. Cuomo estimated.

Officials said they had little clue as to how the man, who had not been to any areas with widespread transmission of the virus, had become infected. He became ill on Feb. 22 and was admitted to NewYork-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital in Bronxville, N.Y., five days later. So far, public health workers have told some nurses and doctors at the hospital that they would need to be quarantined. Eight employees there were being tested for the virus, Mr. Cuomo said on Wednesday.

Coronavirus Testing Available With a Doctors Approval, C.D.C. Says

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/04/health/coronavirus-test-demand.html?referringSource=articleShare

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on Wednesday broadened the guidelines for coronavirus testing, allowing anyone who has symptoms like a fever, cough or difficulty breathing to receive a test if a doctor agrees.

Doctors were encouraged to first rule out other causes of respiratory illness, like influenza, and to take into consideration whether there are other local coronavirus cases, officials said.

Previous guidelines required a patient to have symptoms of respiratory illness as well as a clear route of exposure, such as recent travel to China or a number of other affected countries, contact with a known coronavirus patient, or hospitalization with a severe and unexplained respiratory illness.

Amazing that it took this long to get rid of the stringent requirements to get tested

if they shut everything off (a week) if everything stays on.
longer than 2-3 weeks when it hits aka enough for a quarantine in the worse case.

stays on means running water/electricity.

Washington State risks seeing explosion in coronavirus cases without dramatic action, new analysis says

https://www.statnews.com/2020/03/03/washington-state-risks-seeing-explosion-in-coronavirus-without-dramatic-action-new-analysis-says/

The coronavirus outbreak in the Seattle area is at a critical juncture and could see explosive growth in cases much like Wuhan, China, if public officials dont take immediate, forceful measures, according to a new analysis of genetic data.

The author of the analysis, a computational biologist named Trevor Bedford, said there are likely already at least 500 to 600 cases of Covid-19 in the greater Seattle area. He urged health authorities and the public to immediately begin adopting non-pharmaceutical interventions imposing social distancing measures, telling the sick to isolate themselves, and limiting attendance at large gatherings.

Now would be the time to act, Bedford, who is at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, told STAT.

January 1 in Wuhan was March 1 in Seattle, Bedford told STAT. Now would be the time to start these interventions rather than waiting three weeks.

Samuel Scarpino, an assistant professor at Northeastern Universitys Network Science Institute, agreed time is of the essence.

I think its unequivocal that there is widespread community transmission in Seattle and they have to take decisive action now, said Scarpino, who uses mathematical and computational models of infectious diseases transmission to inform public health policy.

The window of opportunity may be already shut. But we have to assume weve got some time left, Scarpino said. But that means, like yesterday, we have to start seriously testing, putting infection control policies in place, ensuring we have plans for what were going to do with homeless or marginalized populations.
Scarpino urged hospitals in the Seattle area to assume anyone coming in with acute respiratory infections is infected with Covid-19 and isolate them to protect other patients and health workers.

Thanks to rapid global data sharing of #SARSCoV2 genomic data via http://gisaid.org, we can reconstruct large and small scale patterns of #COVID19 spread. This is a thread discussing this intersection of large and small.

At this point, a decent fraction (10/43) of sequenced viruses sampled after Feb 1 belong to a particular genetic lineage. This lineage has mutations unique to it that differentiate it from other #SARSCoV2 lineages.

This lineage contains viruses sampled from Germany, Switzerland, Finland, Italy, Brazil and Mexico. The Italian sample is from Lombardy, further suggesting this lineage is responsible for a sizable portion of the Italian epidemic.

At the base of this lineage lies the sample Germany/BavPat1/2020. This was "patient 1" in Bavaria who was infected by a business colleague visiting from China. This cluster was investigated via contact tracing and an analysis written here:

Incredibly, it appears that this cluster containing Germany/BavPat1/2020 is the direct ancestor of these later viruses and thus led directly to some fraction of the widespread outbreak circulating in Europe today.

Thus, I believe, similar to the case in Washington State (https://twitter.com/trvrb/status/1233970271318503426), we had a situation in which a cluster was identified via intensive screening of travelers, but containment failed shortly thereafter and a sustained transmission chain was initiated.

An extremely important take home message here is that just because a cluster has been identified and "contained" doesn't actually mean this case did not seed a transmission chain that went undetected until it grew to be sizable outbreak.

I have all my more perishable groceries on top of that. I have maybe a week's worth of water, if municipal water goes down because of a virus we're at the point of societal breakdown anyway.

WASHINGTON A medical professional who conducted passenger screenings at Los Angeles International Airport tested positive for the coronavirus late Tuesday , according to the Department of Homeland Security and an internal email obtained by NBC News.

The person last worked screening air travelers for illness on Feb. 21, DHS said in a statement, which also said the medical professional had worn the proper protective gear while working. The internal email described the person as a "contract medical screener" for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The person's last shift at LAX was Feb. 21, more than a week before the appearance of symptoms. According to the internal email, the screener worked at LAX from Feb. 14 to 21 and became symptomatic on Feb. 29.

About 15% of the people who catch this super infective virus are going to require hospitalization to survive.
Now think about it, do any hospitals have the space to treat all of them?

And what about elderly and those who have weakened immunity systems? Or those who have close family members that are vulnerable to the virus?
