So in all the timelines created between taking the first stone and returning the last stone Thanos wouldn't have been in possession of them since they were displaced in time. They explained this in the movie with a visual aid even. What makes the timelines is taking the stones, what restores the timeline is putting the stones back to where they were. Thanos still gets the stones because the timeline isn't affected by what you do. WhiskeyDisk posted... And we were robbed of the exchange between Cap and Red Skull when he went to return the Soul Stone... Well, we don't know that they don't have that planned.
