In poll after poll, young people are politically much further to the left of older Americans. According to Gallup, 52% of 18- to 34-year-olds have a positive view of socialism, while fewer, 47%, have a positive view of capitalism. (For comparison, more than two-thirds of people older than 55 have a positive view of capitalism.)

Problem is that younger generation don't vote.

Nearly 40% of eligable US voters don't vote.

You could have all the teens in California swooning over you but still be dominated in the election by 50 old people from Rhode Island.

Honestly, they should just make the legal voting age 16. They're more affected by whoever's in office than the average boomer.

And if it's because 16 year olds are largely uninformed, so are the majority of registered voters lmao. At least 16 year olds are more tech savvy and know how to do proper research

It was more superdelegates than anything. Primary voters want a winner. So when cable news constantly lumped Hillarys superdelegates in, it looked like Sanders had lost before he even had a chance. Second ballot is still better than first, but they need to go in general...

Young people have always leaned left

Then they grow up, get a job and start actually paying taxes. A lot easier to say your in favor of massively expensive government programs when you don't have to put your money where your mouth is

And they don't vote anyway so who gives a shit what they think.

It's hard to support programs that routinely siphon money from successful people to people who self-sabotage year after year.

He won a primary too. In large part because he's crushing it (with votes) in the under 45 bracket. If you can't see how winning contests because of the youth vote counters your narrative that he can't win because youth won't vote, then your contrarian gimmick that I've long appreciated is getting too silly for me lol

Your second point is unrelated, but Bernie is polling best (and recently the only option) that beats Trump in places Dems need to win back (EC) like the rust belt.

Yes, that is the trite right-wing propaganda nonsense that is used to decry government programs that are successful in most every developed nation and havent been implemented in the U.S. Not sure why youre sticking it here, though.

I want Bernie to win because I think he is the best candidate running, but some of his supporters are just out of it. There is no evidence youth turnout is up this election, if anything it has been down so far. SC exit polls also show youth turnout being way down. It's weird how people always say this time will be different and expect young people to just magically start voting now. Young people largely aren't voting for reasons unrelated to candidates running, they just plain aren't that interested in it.

Youth turnout was up in iowa and nevada, slightly down or the same in nh. There are no young people in sc but new voters are up. You can make claims about primary turnout with at least some level of confidence after tuesday. We do know that the youth that is participating has been crucial to bernie winning all 3 primaries. Youth parcipating in the process at a much higher rate than older voters is also how he's out raising the field in funding and volunteers.
