I can understand the spirit of making everyone dance with everyone (nobody feels left out, etc), but in practice it doesn't seem like a good idea.

It's the same at my school. In the dance units, if you haven't already gotten a partner and someone asks you, you have to say yes.
The fun part is, pretty much everyone who had a partner in advance dances in the same group, which makes it a lot less awkward. --- tfw when you don't have an idea for your sig seriously people, gimme a quote, I'm actually desperate ... Copied to Clipboard!

I could see how some nimrod administrator put this in the same camp as making sure to bring snacks in for everyone if you bring in snacks, but anyone with half a brain cell should be able to understand that forcing people to dance and/or dance with anyone is just asking for trouble. Yeah, I get that they don't want kids to be left out or made fun of, but she has a right to say no. We shouldn't be teaching kids that they have to say yes to everyone's demands.
